    I'd
like to buy my boyfriend a vintage watch for Christmas. I'm specifically drawn
to black dialed IWCs and I like the history/nostalgia of the cal 89. I need to
stay under a certain price point so obvs that restricts my options. I've found
this one that I love, but it's from a private seller who knows very little
about the history or service on the watch. He says it has not been restored or
polished and that everything on the watch is original and in perfect working
order, but I'm sure it's possible that he could be misinformed or just wrong.
This will be my first (hopefully of many) vintage watch purchases as well as
my boyfriend's first vintage and mechanical watch. I don't want to screw this
up! Any advice you have on the IWC pictured, I'd greatly appreciate.

    My best, Lisa

Welcome to the forum, Lisa. What a great idea to buy a classic IWC for your
boyfriend. The case number indicates that the case was made/sold around
1953. I can't see the movement number, so I can't check the movement
production date. The watch looks OK to me. The movement seems fine and the
watch does not look over polished. The dial look original so I would say you
have a potential present here. Good luck!
