I have a vintage 852 automatic that was pass on to me from My grand pa. when I got it,the crown was missing So as the strap. I have found some after market strap and gold coat crown to the watch. the watch run perfectly now. but the part that the bother me the most is the color of the dial is fading. should I replace it? DO I need change to sapphire glass incase will get worst in future? how much will cost?

Ideally, we do need to see a photo. For that you need to upload it to a photo publish site like Flickr etc. and share that public link here (as you tried above).

Thank you for the advise mark. I hope u be able to see the photos I link through flickr. everything running perfectly on the watch beside the fading color dial. should I keep the dial original or refrbish it? how much will it cost? is it possible to change to sapphire? I do wear this watch pretty often as to my iwc portuguese 7 days. Is that good to vintage watch?

Seeing that the watch belonged to your grandfather, I would leave the dial as is to reflect the wear and age of the watch. To refurbish it would erase all the history that the watch has accumulated.

Sapphire glass is not available for that model, a new clear acrylic crystal will probably make the world of difference, as the old one might be slightly yellowed with age. After a service your old 852 will be ready for daily wear for many years to come.

Having looked at the photos carefully, and in particulars the stain / damage across the bottom half of the dial (if my eyes don't deceive me), then I tend to disagree with my namesake Mark F. above in particular to the dual restore.

This is a fantastic watch in fairly good shape with a lot of family heritage. I would definitely take marks advise to replace the glass, and I would opt to replace the dial.

Either way - a great piece. Get it serviced and wear it in good health.
