I think we are still not getting enough of this pure Automatic beauty here so I have decided to change that. I tried to collect some indoor pictures in the past few weeks. No snow, as the winter was quite greedy this year, at least here. I hope to inspire other owners to post some more as well. Hope'll like it.

    Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

In terms of design, what I immediately think of is: simple, clean, elegant, timeless! Not the typical 'IWC design' characteristics, but I like it a lot! Particularly in white gold/ardoise.

Beautiful watch indeed, as are your pictures. The typical IWC part of the Portofino is that it is both simple and clean, but in a deceiving way: it is not boring at all, it has presence, and that is not by chance. Two characteristics that I find special are the polished rounded case, and the shape of the hands: certainly there is nothing simple about those hands, that in a way define the watch.

Here you see an older picture of mine, I will be reunited with this watch in a few months time. I think this too is a perfect elegant watch.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Nice shots Marian42.
I feel the Portofino Automatic is a very under rated watch.
Lovely classic, simple lines very typical of the Portofino range.
    Cheers

    Paul,

I completely agree with you about the hands. The leaf shape is what sold me on the Portofino Auto that I have. I was deciding between a Portofino and a Portuguese Chrono at the time, but the hands were what sealed the deal.

Exactly, the hands are the thing. The shape of it, the shape of the tip of them and how they elegantly align behind each other, in my case also with the seconds hand, and align with the indexes. The fact that the hands and the indexes are "the same" shine. The silver dial, which "just white" but only until you take it out to the sun. Then the whole dial shines. After two years I still do not get bored watching this watch :o)

Love the pics. Very nice. Threads like this are great, I get a different perspective of an IWC model I may not have paid too much attention to and that is a good thing.

    Hi Neil,

The date hang, every day only going half way. A small issue that was solved by me in a cumbersome way. While on holiday in Switzerland last summer I took it to the AD where I bought it and they sent it to Schaffhausen. The AD and I agreed I would pick it up next summer, or whenever I would visit Switzerland in the meantime, they could send it then to the AD near where I would be. As it happened I had no reason to go to Switzerland so the watch is waiting patiently for me to come during the holiday in August. The AD thought it a bad idea to send it outside Switzerland due to possible customs issues. Me without one of my favourite watches for a whole year, crazy! Luckily there are more nice watches in the box, and I guess it might feel like I am getting a new watch when I collect it.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Hi, Marian!
It´s really a beautiful one. I seem to have the same approach like Jarrod - thx to you for me it´s the first time I see a Portofino from another perspective. And I agree that the hands are very special, they make this lordy appearance. The same with Paul´s. Sigh - everday it gets harder to confine …
Anyway - thx for sharing. You have to wear it when we meet :-)
    Best,

    Hi Paul,
Well, talk about turning a negative into a positive.
It was nice of IWC to suggest keeping it Switzerland.
Im sure they are looking after it well for you, however not sure I could handle being without mine for that amount of time :) Im sure you are looking forward to collecting your "new" watch soon.
    Cheers
    Neil.

I once suffered a painful separation from my Portofino 8 days hand wound for about 6 weeks, clearly I either lack the patience of Paul or have a much smaller collection - doubtless both!

Great thread and recognition of a beautiful and classy family in the IWC line up.

    Cheers

    Thank you Peter
Always great to see other members watches even if it is the same. I've been wearing mine over the last 3 days and the enthusiasm for this piece just doesent go away. I love the way differing light conditions play with this dial. In very bright light, the dial just comes alive.
    Have you noticed that ?
    Cheers
    Neil.

I am also a huge fan of this model. The Portofino 8 day in steel with gold indices is sublime. It has balance and poise and an in-house movement. It's rich in character and the design (especially coupled with that Santoni leather strap) really strikes a chord with me.

Thanks too, for sharing, Paul and Neil - great to see such a strong Aussie presence in terms of ownership with this one too. :-)
