I have been reading this forum for a long time but tonight I decided to register.
I am looking for an information regarding the small seconds pinion tube on the 3714. This is different than the tubes found on the 7750. Do they appear in other movements or they are only installed at the 79350?
Hi, what do you mean by small second pinion tube? The 79350 has a small second module with 3 extra wheels in order to have the small second around 6 o'clock but I don't really understand what you mean by that.
I know what you mean now. As you can see they removed the whole hour counter mechanism for this purpose. That way the you have a direct access to the gear train. That small second module is only used by IWC for 3714 models as far as I know. Never seen it elsewhere.
The reason I am asking, is that mine is somehow bent, have no idea how it happened. It exactly that part that is bent few degrees. It's very easy to replace it but I find it very difficult to find the part anywhere.
I could help you out more if you had a magnified picture of the bent part. The best is to go through an official IWC service center but if you can't you can try to bend it back. But if you do so, check every wheel separately to ensure that they are all freely spinning. This module takes the amplitude down and the tiniest mistake can become a nightmare.
I tried taking a photo but my camera just won't zoom so far, and it can't be seen. But from the photo that is the part that is bent, all other are working fine, once i assemble that piece the second hand starts to wobble and eventually will stop the chronograph while in function.
I would try to bend it back but I fear it might snap.
Next week I will go to a IWC boutique and ask if I can buy the part, it's very easy to change it, but I fear they will not be interested in selling the part but rather offer a complete service.
If you aren't a professional watchmaker I think that you should rather bring the watch to an official service center. The second hand can wobble if you forgot to put the module's second wheel spring (or if it's bent). But if the movement stops chrono on it means that the gear train of that module isn't "free". It would take a lot for this part to "snap" but if you know what you're doing it could be a way to fix it. The boutique won't sell you the part as it's totally against IWC's policy.
Wwhateley, do you work in one of the service centres. You clearly know about the mechanism and it's servicing? If so we have at least two others, one from US and the other in London.
Hi Greg! I do indeed. I've been reading this forum once in a while by curiosity and I felt that I could contribute on the purely technical aspect of IWC products while remaining neutral (I've unfortunately been reading a few inaccuracies). I'm not supposed to tell an independent watchmaker how to fix a part that clearly needs to be replaced but sometimes, true watchmaking requires skills to bend a part back as good as possible. Anyway, I'm glad to be a member and to be able to help out if possible!
These are IWC parts and not used in ETA movements. Before you take the risk of trying to straighten the pivot, reassemble the seconds platform with plenty of lubrication on B04092 and check the amplitude again. Insufficient oil there is the most common reason for amplitude drops when the seconds platform is installed.
