This week I spent about 40 hours in Schaffhausen, which I believe is among the most charming cities in the world. 10 hours (straight --whew) involved meetings, and some time was spent sleeping, checking on the forum and even doing some "real" work.

But also some time was spent with my other hobby --photography. Most of this was done early in the morning or late at night,.

I thought some of you would enjoy seeing some photos of the town where IWC's are made. They aren't watch images, but rather reflect an idiosyncratic perspective of the town. The above image was taken at a Tuesday morning market, and a page of other images can be seen via the link below,

    Regards,
    Michael

the watch I was wearing was...

My Portuguese Regulateur Tourbillon. Last Fall I wore my Collectors Forum Ingenieur, and three of the photos were taken then.

Someone at IWC said "it's nice to see someone who actually wears a tourbillon". It's not that common at IWC, and I would guess that a lot of collectors who won such watches keep them in their closets. But I did have to think twice about crossing borders and going through Customs with it.

    Charming town, well captured

My wife and I enjoyed your pictures, Michael. You wetted our appetite again to visit Schaffhausen, we plan to do so around May 2009. Because of IWC, but certainly also because of the town itself. I seems not only nice to visit it, but living there seems to be quite enjoyable too.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing Saint Exupéry Chrono

    Thank you Michael. One question...

Schaffhaussen is a german speaking town. Do you speak german or is there enough people speaking english (or even french) to be able to be understood most of the time? I remember that one of my friend living in Basle (which is also on the german speaking part of Switzerland) had some problem to be understood while speaking french or even english.

    Regards,
    Jean

    it's easy to converse

Certainly at the factory and at hotels, English is just fine. French is frequently understood if Engish is not; if you visit one day I think you'd have very little problem.

By the way, German is actually a second language in Schaffhausen. The first is Swiss German which really is different. The word for "thanks" in Swiss German isn't "danke" but --would you believe-- "merci".

    Regards,
    Michael
