To date 8 Forum members have come forward disclosing they have either received or expect to receive the CF da Vinci.
The participation is underwhelming, but I will keep at it every Saturday until it is obvious this effort has failed.

"the participation is underwhelming."
I am so sad to see that the second CF has not been as attractive as the first.
The DaVinci CF is without doubt a superb watch but I fear that the main reason for its limited success , so far, is its cost.
I do not say that it is not worth the money, because it is ,
but I believe it to be too high a price to pay for the majority of IWC followers, me included. ( now being retired) whereas the Ingenieur was well within the means of most IWC enthusiasts
Having given the first CF to my son I was so looking forward to the second for myself but sadly found it outside of my limit .
I do hope that eventually it makes the grade so that a third version will be considered by MF and IWC

Good luck, you should get a double digit number
Can Michael disclose the number? I was betting on 15, an educated guess based on some information elsewhere that I could not find back. Of course it would be nice to know how large Michael's club is, and how representative it is for the whole forum. Certainly if you take into account that the German forum was invited to order
the watch too, I am not so sure the CFDV really represents this forum, as it is will be owned by too small a sub-group. Be sure, I don't want to say anything bad about the watch, it is nice enough. But all the jokes about Collector's Forum Portugueses may be just made because of that small number, and that special club for it, unnecessary dividing this forum.
Kind regards,

I think.....
the overwhelming support for MF's original idea for a CFI is self evident by the fact that the initial one was oversubscribed.
Even today I would buy another even with some elses name on it because it is really so special
I believe the second edition is limited only by the entry level
i.e. its relatively higher cost .
As I said in my previous post the watch is well worth the money but takes it beyond the price of a lot of us forum memebers or am I just a poor relative?

Let me be clarify...
that I was qualifying of 'underwhelming' the disclosure of the acquisition, and not the actual number of CF da Vinci actually sold. Only IWC knows, and it is not telling. I wish they did.
Can we invoke the Freedom of Information Act? ,-))
I've heard many numbers, none of them reliable but all well above 8. The logical conclusion is that the majority of the Forum members who bought it do not wish to come out of the cold. It is their prerogative, I guess.
The reasons for the apparent lack of success of this CF watch is another matter. Yes, it is expensive. It is also not everybody's cup of tea. The very negative and strident reaction in the German language Forum may have deterred some.
It would not be my first choice for a CF watch, to be sure, but I bought because of what it represents and because it it a very fine watch. It will be, however, my first, and my last da Vinci.
I also bought it..
for what it represents and because it is a beautifully executed watch. I really don't feel like a "sub-group" of the forum....but I did make somewhat of a financial sacrifice to make a purchase that I have no buyers remorse for what I received.
Best regards,
Jim
"Michael's Club" - That's Going Too Far
I hope this whole thing is over soon - IWC should simply release the info.

IWC went out of the way...
to give us the opportunity to acquire a unique limited edition watch and we took it. We are not part of any sub-group. We are proud members of the community of CF daVinci owners. I can't wait for mine to arrive.
On order
and waiting...
..sorry for not responding to your earlier posts. I incorrectly thought you were tracking actual arrivals.
I'm anxiously awaiting for mine to arrive...it will reside in NYC.
Cheers,
Evan
OnAn when you get it, you will not be disappointed
It is one very special timepiece!

I agree
Probably the price is a key factor, I've tried the watch and it's really a beauty, it deserves attention just from an aesthetical and technical point of view.
Another point could be the fact it has been presented in the year of the Portuguese, not because we were expecting for a CFP but just because Portuguese may just encounter our common taste more than the Da Vinci line, just my opinion.
I'm surely a poor relative of this community, if I bought the CFDV I couldn't afford another IWC watch that's coming my way, otherwise I would have bought it :(

roberto
I think we must agree to disagree...
I believe you are underestimating the mimetic impact of the negative and strident reaction of the German language Forum to the CF daVinci.
I will not argue from which IWC line the CF 2010 should have come. It is a matter of personal preference. I stated mine in previous postings and will refrain from doing that now.
I can't comment on what GK told you...
in a group setting, since my discussions with him were somewhat different and my discussions with others at IWC were very different. But at this stage it doesn't serve any purpose to debate this, especially in a changing environment (a new head of Internet communications recently started at IWC).
I suggest we all move on.

That's not correct at all....
I've kept the story of the CFI confidential, and at one time I prepared a report but was asked not to post it. But I have the e-mails to prove what occurred.
Given that 5 years have elapsed, I will tell you a little now. Jacqueline Rose, then head of the Internet, told me in 2004 about the debut of the Ingenieur in 2005. She told me it would be a big deal, and asked for ideas to help launch the new watch. Based on what Panerai did for its collectors in the preceding year, I suggested that there be a special forum Ingenieur. I also suggested the numbering, the personalized engraving, distribution details, etc. I suggested that for several reasons --not just giving something to collectors, but also to help marketing --both the debut of the watch and the forum itself. I, again, have the e-mails to show that I proposed the idea and then followed up, both with proposal details and then implementation.
I also showed a series of drawings about the suggested watch --they weren't accepted, and instead the ardoise dial was the idea of Guy Bove, then head of the design center. I wanted a 3227 with a military dial, and I still wish that were done.
That said, no one person should take credit for the watch. Jacqueline quickly grasped what I suggested and dealt with it internally. Vronni Michel helped her at each step of the way. Georges Kern understood and endorsed it. Guy Bove and his team designed it. Pius Brida, then product manager, produced it. It was a team effort. But the idea was mine, based on what Panerai did, and you're completely wrong.
Really-- you don't know what occurred involving the history of the CFI, especially for those who weren't involved with IWC in 2004. Among the worse rumors are Internet ones.
An apology is in order
.
Michael
P.S. Because the idea was mine, I was asked what number I would like. Number 1 was allocated to Prince Albert of Monaco for a charitable auction, so I chose number 2. I debated whether 100 would have been better.
And then, there were 10...
U.S.A. - 3
Hong Kong - 2
Greece - 1
Portugal - 1
The Netherlands - 1
U.K. - 2
And here I cease this effort. The Law of Unintended Consequences has taken over, and this is no longer fun.
