Quite some discussions about straps... I don't know about you, but I am always finding myself between holes, to be precise, buckle holes. Do you have those sort of annoying watch drama's on a daily basis, either too loose or a tad too tight! Why can't I ever find a hole in the right place. On all the IWC's I've owned over the years, Big Pilots, or Portuguese, the holes are always one way or other. I must be the unluckiest man ever to have half a size away from any watch strap. The big thick Big Pilot Strap is unforgiving and the nice sexy blue leather strap on my previous Portuguese 7 days looked a tad tired after a few weeks. I hate stretching the holes, but this effectively is what happens. The Portuguese is a tad heavy on such a fine strap. With my latest child, the Blue Dialled Portuguese Perpetual, I've have a hand made strap attached. It's fabulous in dark brown but guess what, yes, I'm between holes again!... I could scream. I long for the day that someone has one of those perpectual clasps, so you can just snap the thing closed in exactly the right spot for your wrist. Am I mad (please be moderatley kind) or is this something we all suffer with. We are wonderfully busy with the mantlepiece, but let us not forget the fire.
I wait to hear with interest.

If you travel to Paris, bring the watch and there are two custom watchstrap shops which will make a strap with exactly the right holes. For one of them you can order on line, but that's a bit riskier unless you measure exactly right.

    Hello Hans,

You could try to get an extra 'runner' (the loose leather loop that keeps the end from the strap near your wrist) or maybe even two. I noticed on my Aquatimer that even one runner makes a difference in how tight the strap wears.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Thank you for your feedback. I've reverted to 'finer' measurement when having a strap made!... Problem solved.

More information please. Like shoes, you can never have enough straps!

If you post your email address, I or others will send you the contact info for the Paris Atelier that makes straps. As this is an IWC sponsored site, we cannot recommend outside vendors here.

In my experience the leather of the strap always stretches up a bit while wearing the watch. That takes a few weeks, and at least with me was not the result of only stretching the hole. After that the strap fits perfectly. It could be possible that a strap that initially fits OK becomes too loose after a few weeks. So, maybe you have to be patient. But of course you could be out of luck if the needed stretch area is just too big for you.

    Kind regards,
    Paul
