When the Portuguese Yacht Club was released Andrew Thomas made mention that the chronograph pushers reminded him of the equipment used to to tie up a yacht, I think they are called bollards or pillars. It was only this week I also realized the chronograph dial markings are similar to a yacht/ships wheel. Quite subtle.

    Cheers from the cellar

..and all that is now needed is a marine

    compass to be added :~)

You are 100% correct of course, and the sales will tell if indeed Schaffhausen have succeeded in playing well here to the 'boat owners and lovers" of this world. I think they have...

    This is how vintage terminology

takes the move: an intuition, an authoritative source, a name, that's it!

I bet in 2040 they'll call them "pillars pushers" and they will be very hard to find in NOS conditions :)

    Regards,

    roberto

P.S. "cellar pushers" would sound good too.

    Had missed that detail...

Thanks for calling our attention to it. It is elegant and understated, almost too much. :-)
This watch is destined to become a vintage classic. I first wondered what was a Yacht Club doing in the Portuguese line? But the "marriage" is one of "love" and not "arranged".
For centuries the Portuguese have been attracted to the Sea and went on to uncover new worlds. Not in yachts, I grant you, but that is a small detail. The watch is related to the Sea, which was a magnet to the Portuguese for many centuries. A good tribute and marketing tool.
If I were a cynic I would say that the reason why Portuguese went to Sea is because they had no alternative. Portugal was on a constant state of war with the several kingdoms of Iberia until they became the Spain we know today, and their only way out was throught the water.

    I agree. Good observation.

This new member of the Portuguese line is growing on me, but it should stop growing, as my small wrists won't be able to wear it decently, with its near 46mm diameter. I also have some "retenue" with its date window, but I can live with it. And as Clepsydra pointed out, the marriage "yacht club / portuguese" makes sense finally.

And now, imagine it with blue hands and indices...

and a white dial, as on ref.500107!!! What a great looking dial, easy to read. A dream for me.

    Interesting observation!

I enjoyed the photos of the Yacht Clubs that were sent back from SIHH. This is a watch I would love to try on and see close up and personal!

    Best regards,

No apologies needed, it's a software glitch

..for which I blame poor programming. But not every battle is worth fighting.

    Thanks for your post.
