    Hello dear friends,

despite all the bad news from Europe and the world, i hope you enjoy the
summer as much as I do, always with an IWC on your wrist.

    The Ingenieur actually always fits.

And all these wonderful details.... Even after 16 years, I still like it as
    much as the first day.

For me, the Ref. 3227 is one of IWC's modern classics.

    Cheers,

    Sascha

A staple in my small collection as well. Heavy metal, but a bit of a ding

Much as I love my 3521 Chronometer, we both think thay my wife's 4515 is a
better looking watch. Of our ten IWC traesures only two have IWC movements,
six are JLC, two are ETA the others a Mark XI and a ladies watch from the 70's
are the on;ly two with IWC movements. Keep the faith!!

    Hi Barrie,

well the subject of manufacture movements is certainly worth a discussion of
its own. And everyone certainly has their own opinion.

Personally, I also like the IWC watches with the basic ETA calibre and the
mechanical IWC additions such as the Split Minute or the Split Seconds of the
Doppelchronograph. The great JLC base calibre in my Deep One has also worked
    perfectly for over 20 years.

Too often I have experienced (independent of IWC) bad and expensive manual
calibres. And at the same time experienced great moments with inexpensive and
    high-quality and reliable mass-produced mechanics.

But the Ref. 3227 has its own IWC calibre. But even without it, I wouldn't
like this watch any less. For me, it's always the sum of all the parts.

    Cheers,

    Sascha

Modern classic indeed! As Mark F. always says "nothing can be added, nothing
    taken away"
The 3227 is definately in my collection to stay!

Nothing you cant to with it...such a beater and even made a brilliant figure
    in the wild Atlantic ocean.

Please forgive me if I gve the impession that I was choosing IWC/JLC/ETA. I
was only commenting on the variety of movements in our collection. As it
happens I drive a Mercedes with an Audi gearbox and Italian tyres, horses for
courses!! We love all our IWC watches, on a visit to the factory some years
ago we asked Jenna our guide whether she had a favourite watch, yes she said,
the one I am wearing at the time!!

Marion loves her mid size Ingenieur and, sadly with its ETA movemement, it
keeps better time than my Ingenieur Chonometer!!!

Please keep the Forum active. With all good wishes

I too have been a fan of the 3227,especially the AMG version, but was under
the impression that several different calibers (IWC,ETA and JLC) were used in
that reference during it's life. Am I mistaken?

    Hi Sidney

All 3227s had IWC caliber 80110 movements.

It's replacement, Ref 3239 Ingenieurs came with Cal 30110 based on ETA.

The watch runs at plus 3 seconds per day on the wrist after the revision in
