The primary purpose of Saturday's event was to show the CFDV to the collectors.
I'd like to share some thoughts having seen it.
For starters, the watch is extremely versatile, one can dress up, dress down, or dress sporty with it. It easily works on any occasion, with the exception perhaps of playing sports.
It has an innovative case design with a lot of nice details, and as Larry pointed out it flatters the wrist, and I could not agree more with that. The watch may not work very well for slender wrists, but would fit well on a 6.5 inch wrist.
It sports a bracelet with an innovative mechanism to adjust it without adding/removing links. This feature is very practical for making a few millimeter adjustments throughout the year as the wrist expands/contracts and is very easy to use. IWC has done a very good job with this bracelet aesthetically too. And BTW, it comes for "free".
The dial is simply stunning. The wave pattern makes the watch look very elegant, and it also adds/removes shades depending on the angle you look at it. Hard to describe, you have to see it to appreciate it.
Last but not least, it's heart beats 100% IWC. The movement, albeit not very complicated, is IWC's first in-house developed chrono movement which carries some significance.
Having said that, I feel that the CFDV may have been judged a bit unfairly. Sure, I would have preferred a different watch and so would everyone else on the forum, but that does not make the watch a bad one. On the contrary I think it's a fabulous watch that has a lot of elements we all came to like from IWC.
On a personal note, wearing a CFDV would serve as a reminder for a great GTG, of the people I met that evening, and the people I met thru this forum.
So yes, the CFDV receives thumbs up from me!
Thanks for reading,
Evan
