Yes gents, it's true...it's not an IWC...

    *horror sound effects kick in

Since it's the IWC forum, I will only post a couple of pictures.

It's a Vacheron Constantin from the 1950's with the nice corne de vache lugs. Altough it really is a bloody nice watch, I don't think it is going to stay with me very long. I got it for a good price and am able to sell it with a nice profit. Which is helpful for funding another watch from a brand called...IWC I believe??

I have a few pieces on the radar...A friend of mine let me wear his 3714. I was already in love with it ,but seriously...it's so freaking good looking. I think I might get myself that one pretty soon or get an 5001...or a 3904. Or a...AAARGGHH!!! TO MUCH BEAUTY TO HANDLE!!

Koen, can I suggest you take the "happy for a day" option and have a drink mate. :-)

Vacheron Constantin versus IWC: hmm, I don't know, until now the price tag prevented me buying the former. But if price was not an issue, then I would go for at least one of them. Koen, the watch you bought just looks magnificent, it probably has quite a good and beautiful movement too. It has quite a lot of class, you might reconsider selling it. The rule I once read here, to which, quite honestly don't I adhere myself, is that you can better have one top piece than several not top pieces. This Vacheron Constantin versus the Portuguese Chrono? I would keep the Vacheron Constantin.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I would keep a Vacheron, rather than buy an IWC. IMO you are comparing watches that shouldn't be pitted against one another. They are from different eras, one is sh versus a current model. They are watches for different applications. At the end of the day it's your choice and your wallet and you know which is going to make you smile two years down the line.

Koen, the 3714 is a wonderful watch, it will fit you and your style fantastically. Good luck. ;-)

    Indeed, totally different:

    • first class manufacture

    • ETA based commodity

If one really makes this exchange, he will for sure regret in the future, when the nowledge about watches has increased ?!

Thank you for the comments gents.

Just to be clear, I was not stating that it is going to be the VC or the 3714. I meant to say that I really like the Portugieser collection and that the 3714 is one of them and so is the 5001 and the 5444.

I am not going to sell it to get an 3714. However I will sell it to get another watch and an IWC from the Portugieser collection would be a nice addition to my collection. Wearing the 3714 just made it more clear to me how gorgeous this collection is.

So don't worry gents. Still really thanks for the advice! :)
