So you can imagine how extremely disappointed I was that because of a communication mix-up at the sellers location, acquiring my first IWC bracelet ( "The Brick"  ) graded in excellent condition to pair up with my Pilot UTC was not to be. My excitement turned into a real downer. I won't go into the details of what happened except to say, the old saying " things happen for a reason " we're never more true.

Upon learning what happened and the reason behind it, my source knew instantly of my feelings and how this was to be a real memorable event in my " IWC collecting " ( hobby ? ). Bottom line...he totally understood my disappointment and wanted to somehow make things right if possible since we have had a long and trusting relationship.

Since it was late in day when I informed of the bad news, my source asked me to give him until the next day and he would get back to me with a possible fix to the situation.

He kept his word and around mid morning he called and wanted to run a scenario by me.

Since I was so high on acquiring the "brick style" bracelet for my UTC, and he is always mindful ( because I remind him every week to be on the lookout ) of my desire to one day add my " Grail " to the collection which BTW  is the Pilot Ceramic Chronograph ref. 3705 , he proposed the following:

He has a contact who recently discussed possibly parting with a 3706 w/ brick bracelet in old new stock condition. My source has seen the full package and says everything from the watch, bracelet, extra strap, box, hang tags/paperwork looks like it was delivered fresh from  Schaffhousen. He said in the many years he's been in the watch biz, this is probably one, if not, the best condition 3706's he seen. He then made me an offer I could not refuse ......

I apologize for for the long post, but my excitement is back at full strength as I now await the arrival of a mint condition 3706 w/ brick bracelet which will allow me to have the next best thing to the 3705 and the ability to interchange the bracelet with the UTC . I say what started out as a huge disappointment now has me " singing in the rain ".

Here are a few photos sent to me to cheer me up while I wait for the FedEx truck. Still want that 3705...but this should happily hold me until then.

    Thanks for reading ,

    Andy

    Fantastic 3706 Andy
    Huge Congratulations.

3706 is the watch that made me fall in love with IWC.
By the time I was in a position to purchase one, it was out of production - so I got a 3717 instead.

Andy, in the end all is well and you got more than you wanted!
That's cool. Exactly that watch on that bracelet was the first IWC that caught my eyes. My former boss back in the 90's had it on his wrist everyday and I'd always had an eye on it during meetings. Very cool, huge congratulations, well done!

Not exactly the same but I've ended up with this recently, in the meantime had had a 3717 on bracelet for a few years.

Hello Andy, great story and beautiful watch! I’m looking for a 3706 in excellent condition for months...and a 3705 is just a dream (if you ever find one and want to sell your 3706 I would be so please to help you :-))
    Congratulations !

    IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE !! /site_media/ckeditor_images/b4da38c756217049b70071bd3e1e812f.jpg

Fed-Ex just left. Knew there was an extra strap. But included as gift from seller, some bonus straps to have fun with. Tried on real quick. Bracelet came sized perfectly like it was custom made. Oh Yes...this is one comfortable fine fitting bracelet. Even the clasp is centered. I'm stoked !!!

Since I am getting a late start for a few days out of town due to waiting for the delivery truck, I think I now have a dilemma to ponder over while gone. Can't believe how wonderful the watch and bracelet feel so balanced together. My intention was to transfer the bracelet immediately to the Pilot UTC, but after trying it on for just a few minutes, I almost don't want to separate them right away. It just looks so right as is. Damn you IWC...why did you have to make such a beautiful combination ?

Got to go...much to think about while on the road. More photos to come once back and settled.

One thing I can confirm. My source was "right on" when he said the whole package looks like it is factory fresh. He was not kidding !!

Better pay close attention to the road....

    On top of the world,

    Andy

Just having some fun with the gifted straps. Would enjoy hearing which one you think looks best. Thank you in advance for your thoughts. This is as much work as I will do today. Celebrating Labor Day here in the USA.

    Cheers,

    Hi Andy,

I like the last two best, both with the contrast stitching. I have a similar tan brown strap for my BP and like it that way during Summertime, swapping to a darker strap when the days get shorter and darker.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Regarding the straps the 3706 can take any without being ridiculous. With that said, the Mk. I. bracelet (that I also have for my 3706) feels the best wear comfort ever - a treat to wear the 3706 on that bracelet.
Mine (bought new 20.5 years ago) is not for sale yet, maybe from 2022 it will be up for sale, or even better a trade for a 3711/3713 on Mk. I. bracelet.
(My younger daughter might get the 3706 for her highschool degree that's where the date comes from.)
Regarding my 3705 (possibly the very last one world-wide bought new in 12/2000 from an IWC AD) it might be also up for sale some day - if IWC will produce a cal. 69xxx-based 40-41 mm Aquatimer Chrono with a mat black ceramic case. Dunno about the odds though...
