Since there are "rumors" circulating about the genesis of the original Collectors" Forum Ingenieur, some of which are inappropriate, I thought that I'd post something that I wrote in 2005 and which, for various reasons, was never published.

If you'll excuse the typo in spelling "Schaffhausen", please click on the link below.

    Michael

    Thanks MF, an interesting read>>>

I wish I were around then and could be one of the lucky 100 who own this very special Collectors' Forum Watch. I have admired in on the wrists of many of the proud owners.

Thanks, Michael for the real story!...

Like Bill, I wish I was around at that time. It is a watch to cherish. But I also understand without your first proposal of a Collector's Forum watch...there would be no CFDV. So I also thank you for having the opportunity to own this special Da Vinci.

    Best regards,
    Jim

A real landmark in the history of IWC ...

No matter whatever follows this original CFI will never be surpassed for innovation and for being something really special.
I am sure those of us who are lucky enough to own the First CFI are truly proud of the association and grateful to MF for its inception and fruition.

    Nice story, reality exceeds imagination

    sometimes.

Very happy ending story, it says a lot about this forum, its moderator, the forumers, their passion and... obviously about IWC.

There is not a single time

when the CFI is mentioned that I never stop wishing I was one of you. Good thing CFDV came along and I am greatful for this Michael but how I wish I was one of them.
    Thank you Michael.

    Success has many fathers...

(not all legitimate) and failure is an orphan. In the case of the CFI, success has one father only, but it it took a team to bring her to life. Thanks Michael.
I was deep in the Baltic region away from the Western trappings of Western civilization, high speed internet included, when heard of her. Managed with great difficulty to connect to the IWC site and applied blindly to purchase the CFI, not knowing how she looked like, or if I could afford her. It was kind of a blind date.
I had no hopes of being selected. I was.
No regrets whatsoever. :-)) No siree. :-)))

The CFI really is something special. I must say however that the CF Da Vinci is a really really nice watch too! My guess is that there will be several members who will regret not having bought one.

Probably, the 'deception' immediately after the announcement put off a lot of collectors, since most of them were hoping for a Portuguese model. Maybe the Collectors Forum model would have sold better when it was announced together with the rebirth of the Da Vinci line.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

I am sure there will be...

Forum members who will regret not having acquired the CF daVinci. I hope I can bring the best in myself then, and be forthright and magnanimous about it, and not succumb to Schadenfreude.

    I second this post ....

Wish I was part of the CFI too....

but hear here gentle folk, there is such a thing called a CFDV and whilst I agree that it will never be as "special" as the CFI - it's definately like the CFI - it's a great piece of engineering and one fine watch. Some of the Dutch forum memebers saw my CFDV yesterday at a small get together - and I believe they were all unanimous about the quality of the CFDV.

I shall wear mine - loudly and proudly !

    never heard. Very interesting.

Your last sentence was very prophetic!
