Normally that subject line would be followed by a photo of the Matterhorn. Unfortunately, it's very cloudy and rainy today so we can only look where we know the Matterhorn to be and imagine. On the plus side, we spent the afternoon in some of the shops including a couple of watch dealers. One of the local IWC ADs is Schindler where I spent some very pleasant time talking with one of the staff and trying on a few things. Outside the shop is this wonderful clock -- and the ubiquitous geraniums -- I thought some of you might like to see.

    David,

I was bummed hearing about your encounter with lousy weather and not getting to see a shot of the Swiss Matterhorn. So, I drove by Disneyland today and caught a glimpse of that iconic peak. BTW, it was 78 degrees, crystal clear and sunny. "It's a small world after all" ( lol ).

Love that IWC grande clock! Great picture...

    Thanks,

    Andy

One of the sidelights of traveling in Switzerland for me is spotting all of the watch and clock related items on the streets of the cities. That and all of the great advertising you never see here in the states.

    That is a great example.

Same shot, but in winter. I walk into this AD each time I am there for my Ski holiday. They are getting used to me trying on their IWC's, but only window shopping in the end.

It is indeed a very nice AD. The young man who was helping me was more than happy to spend as much time as I wanted and he pulled out watches just to show me features he thought were interesting. In the end, I left because I didn't want to take more of his time and because I didn't want to keep my wife waiting longer (not necessarily in that order).

Interestingly, the doors to the shops in Zermatt are all open. In Geneva, one must buzz to be let in by a burly doorman (often the only male employee in the shop). I speculate that they can be looser with security in Zermatt because there is no easy getaway. :)

Finally, the weather today made up for the last couple of days. Made it up to Gornergrat and got some good Matterhorn shots. Tomorrow the forecast looks good for our ride on the Glacier Express to St. Moritz (where there are as yet unexplored watch shops). I'll update with another photo or two after we return home.

    Andy - 6 more weeks...
