    Wow
Great post and thoughts on IWC
I feel the same with every watch I own.
The beauty of IWC watches I think is that every look again I see new details that confirm why I love the craftmanship of Schaffhausen
    Thx for posting
    Cheers
    bas dekkers

Can't decide what watch to wear at this time

Great post Dick and I truly appreciate how you get those details across!

Made me realise once more that I 'collect' for the same reason: watches that grab my attention time and time again, if not... I normally sell them, even though I don't consider myself a trader and always buy to keep!

    Bob

Great post Dick. Your words chosen are as special as the details on each and every IWC. I really enjoyed reading it ... reading your post gave me the creeps.

    Dick,

What a superb post… already one of my favourites.

I too am a lover/appreciator of the finest, often subtlest of details.

If I had to only choose one, from my first IWC (a Da Vinci)… it would have to be the exquisite texture of the dial.

Like you I can stare at this favoured & mesmirising detail for hours and hours on end…

Great post guys. On seeing this photo by Alan, I thought the 'subidal' of the DFB Big Pilot could have been in black to reflect the uniformity of the series. Nevertheless the current one is beautiful piece. Enjoy!

Dick, incredible close-up pics of the Pisa ref 5441 dial !

to answer your question, three very basic things gripped me and remain deeply rooted in my collecting palette since. in chronological order...

the incredibly clear white or silver dial design that to me so personifies the 'less is more' aesthetic high-road...
    i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/sat3.jpg

and minutes after that first love-at-first-sight moment, the incredible case polishing...
    i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l497/vanhalen812/390204%20or%2006%20Yacht%20Club/presentation20.jpg
which one year later I would be informed by Schaffhausen personnel that there is a saying 'an IWC can be recognized by its side' because of this distinctive polish patterning, which is the result & effect of a material invented by IWC and a well-known US manufacturer.

and as I found out more about the brand, I came to appreciate even more of its ingenuity in design, and clever movement inventions...

I am late jumping onto this thread, but it is such a great topic I wanted to add my "smallest things" to the observations. Thanks Dick for putting into words and pictures what many of us probably felt, but never directly expressed.

    My favorite small details are:

AT 2000 (just like your thought Dick). The yellow seconds hand tip is a marvelous design.
