I have some IWC watches from the 70th in my collection, with mechanical – and quartz movements, like the refs.: 1832, 3303, 3279 etc.

But at that time, many Electronic Companies launched a new type of watch, the LED watch.

Today it is not easy to find these watches. Most of them were thrown away, because the batteries leaked out and destroyed the watches, or newer models with permanent LCD displays were available a short time later.

The most significant problem LED had, you must press a key to activate the LED-Display, because the power consumption of the LEDs was very high.

Some of these models (American Brands) are in my collection.

    • Fairchild
    • National Semiconductor
    • Hewlett-Packard

My latest acquisition is the Hewlett-Packard HP-01, a calculator watch.

These LED-watches have solid steel cases and bracelets. The HP
bracelet is similar to the ref. 3279.

    Regards

    Heiko

I had a unique one too..Sinclair Black Watch

... I bought it in kit form, and assembled /soldered the whole "movement" up, under a jewelers light/magnification glass. Batteries lasted about a week (because everyone who saw it just had to have it "lit up" . As far as design went if was amazing and way ahead of it's time. Pity I no longer have it - it would make a real fine addition to your collection. Sorry.
