Actually, these fora are off to a great start, but so much for pedanticism.

We've been "open for business" just over 24 hours, and there's been over 170 posts. That's phenomenal. What you don't see, however, are the "view" statistics --many posts have had 20 times the number of views. There have been thousands upon thousands of total views. And more than the quantity, we've had quality.

My compliments --IWC fans are terrific. I know IWC appreciates your support and interest.

    Regards,
    Michael

At the moment it's all too new!! You say that there are over 170 posts, how do we access them? I know that we have to move forward but can't find the instruction manual(!)

Sorry, Barrie, you're having difficulty navigating. Feel free to e-mail me at mfriedberg@iwcforum.com if you have questions.

Basically, the forum is divided into sections (sub-forums), and there's an index page. If you're lost, look for the word "Index" and click on it. It should get you to the page that has a list of topics, beginning with News, then Contemporary then Vintage, etc. Next to each isa little arrow to the right.

Click on that arrow and you get to the subjects of the sub-forum. For example, in News there are three right now. Next to each subject is an arrow, and when you click on that you see the posts under that. You need to scroll down to read those posts. if there's amny, they extend to subsequent pages and yoiu click on the next page at the bottom of scrolling.

I don't mean to diminish that some may have dificulties, but this is relatively standard and actually easy to get the hang off. Just clicking and expeirmenting for 15 minutes will get you where you'd like to go. The forum is "nested" or set up with a tree-like architecture, to use buzzwords.

    Good luck,
    Michael

I know I'm presenting the minority opinion here but it's better said.
I much prefer the old forum's layout!
In the old version we saw all the new posts initially and chose what to look at.
Here you have to browse through all the sub sections to 'fish' out the new posts.
To me the main issue is that you miss new information easily. In addition it creates separated smaller subgroups, previously it was more unified pack.

Certainly at the beginning of this new forum I agreed with you, and I still do to a certain extent. I still think that one overview of posts would be preferable, but then you need a title per post, which is not there at the moment. Now you need quite some mouse clicks and juggling with different slide bars.

But I got more or less used to it. You need to remember when you last looked at the forum, and in the main index you look where you find "today" or ÿesterday". Juggling with the slide bars should be repaired, but I got fairly handy with it, sliding the outer one to the max down first, and playing with the inner one to go where you want to go. In the end, it is not so bad. The quote feature and the edit feature are great. This being an intermediate site gives a lot of possibilities to look for the optimal solution, but I am quite satisfied now already.

    Kind regards,
Paul, still wearing my newest beauty

    Hi eddeny and Paul,

From the initial Forum screen, click on "unread", the fifth item along and you can see which posts you haven't read and can then select those that you would like to read.

You don't need to go through every forum.

    Cheers from the cellar

Yes, this is a bit easier, thanks.

But still, seeing all the new posts on one screen is, at least visualy, better.
Before we all 'saw' everyone, now it's compartmentalized and I like it less.

There are several ways to improve thie forum setup but I think it is wise to just master what is here and wait for the new forum at the end of the year.

Alan and all --I said that this was an interim website and that IWC is working on a smashingly new one by the end of this year. I'm not sure whether this forum, as is, will be imported into the new website or whether there will be a further redesign of the forum.

I suspect there will be some technical enhancements here, regardless of the the new website. I am waiting for further experience --and to give the people at IWc a breather-- and will compile comments. Some changes can't be made since the programming would be complex even though the software is both open source and HTML based. Other changes should be easy to make, but I'm not sure there is a consensus on each proposal.

But --I suggest for all of us (a) give yourself time to adapt, (b) master what is here. (c) realize what is here is light years' better, in many respects and for most users, than what we had before. and (d) compile a list of suggestions, with some priority to the items. We'll get there.

    Regards,
    Michael

I like the new forum for the simple reason that I can read it in English. I don't know why but four or five months ago whenever I went from the login page in to the forum I was taken to the German forum page. The whole page was in German including all the headings and text so I know it wasn't the German translation of the English page. I posted a help message on that forum (in English) and a member kindly emailed me a couple of browser setting suggestions but it didn't help. I then tried signing up as a new user and was able to enter the English forum that one time but the next time I was back at the German forum. I sent a note concerning my problem using the contact link at the top of the website page but never received a reply.
I had missed not being able to enjoy the forum and had basically given up on it, though I still tried logging on about once a month on the faint off-chance, and this time it has worked. I am happily enjoying being able to read through the previous posts.
