So I am not new to Swiss watches but I am a total noob when it comes to IWC.  I recently decided I would like to add an Ingenieur to my collection. In particular, I’m interested in models that feature the “lightning bolt”-style small seconds hand. I know this is available on the current Sport Chrono edition. I seem to recall seeing this on vintage models as well, but I’m not sure which ones. When shopping, I want to avoid characterizing my ask as for “the lightning bolt”, so can anyone suggest what vintage models/calibers fit the bill?

Vintage Ingenieurs do not have a lightning bolt seconds hand, but display the Lightning Bolt INGENIEUR Script.
These include: Reference 666 and 866.

Ref 3227 has it, Also, the Vintage Collection Ingenieur of 2008 to 2012 Reference 3233 have the script.

Thanks for clarifying!  Now the shopping begins. I’ve seen several reasonably priced 666’s;!nearly an order of magnitude less than a new Sport Chronograph. Vintage might be a good place to start my IWC Collection!

Perhaps look for a Ref 3227 first, which is a good reliable Imgenieur, iconic and a future classic.

Finding a good Ref 666 requires knowledge and experience. Some out there have been redialled incorrectly.
    Or are Frankenwatches.

I would concur with Mark, the 3227 is a fine example of the Ingenieur, and a future (or even current!) classic.

I too agree with Mark, I love my 3227.  It has a most fantastic bracelet.  It is bound to be a classic, must have Ingenieur.
