Hello everyone.
I recently purchased this IWC thinking it was a early Portugieser but after sending it to Schaffhausen to authenticate the result was disappointing because the movement was authentic to a caliber 74 from 1920 but they didn’t recognize the case . Now I’m trying to figure out how this watch came to be.
It is a marriage, a caliber from a pocketwatch put in an aftermarket case. I don't think the dial is original either.
In hte past ( and like now ) when gold prices were very high, sometimes the pocketwatch was broken up, the case taken to be melted, and sometimes the caliber ended up in the scrap or in an aftermarktet case
