    This week:

    A Russian market Pallweber?

    https://www.iwc.com/member/forum/search_all.asp?table=archives&name=mf&subject=russian&archived=yes&id=4094

    Some threads from Michaels post:

Chinese Versions by moeb (image one above)

Pallwebers for the Chinese markets existed indeed, and picts can be found in

    • Tölke-King 108
    • Watch 4/93 p. 9,
    • Meis (p.58 with a lesson in chinese numerals)
    • and earlier catalogues.

If my informaton is correct there must have been at least two series.

The one in Tölke-King (and Watch) with case no 27306 was sold to a Weill & Harburg in London 1886 (as part of a serie of 10),

One year later the one depicted in the catalogue of 1972 (probably the same as in Meis) with case no. 31385 was delivered to Borel in Bevaix. The scan shows part of page 20 of the 1972 catalogue, admittely a poor pict, but a nice story (albeit in German).

Here is an other "Pallweber" from the collection mentioned by Michael. However, it`s not manufactured by IWC but by its licensee Cortebert.

    Cheers from the cellar

PS Sometimes images are no longer in the archives, but as is the case above, I sometimes have them on my hard drive.

I think you may have misunderstood me...

    Hi Tony,

I may have not communicated effectively --sorry.

I have no doubt that the watch you showed is an authentic IWC Palwebber, and am very familiar with IWCs with dials that say Automatic Watch Co. or other variants, on even have no signature. However, with respect I personally think the "better" and much more collectible IWC Palwebbers say "International Watch Co." on their dials (that is, they have company-signed dials).

What I was suggesting is that any such Palwebber wristwatch also should say "International Watch Co." on its dial.

    Regards,
    Michael

I did in fact misunderstand you.

I regret that. My posting may have come out more assertive than I intended.
I agree that Pallwebers with the IWC logo on the dial are generally more desireable and collectible. I liked this one because it has a flawless dial without cracks and because it was destined to the US.
Is it true that the Pallwebers destined to the US market do not have the IWC logo on the dial?

Totally agree, and with digits counting 0-23 h >

None of this sissy 12 h stuff. Also a signed dial in cursive as MF indicates.

If fact, the basis for such a watch already exists with the Ref. 3761.
