Some interesting models there...

thanks for posting cellar. Clearly quartz was beginning to leave it's mark and the quartz movements are there. It was around this time I "built" my first watch. A Sinclair "Black Watch" quartz & LED (red digit display) which came in kit form. Batteries lasted about 4-5 days !

Interesting, and often quite horrible

Almost forty years ago, the whole collection shown is historically interesting. There are very few watches that take away my breath because of their beauty. There are a lot of watches that are ugly, ugly! Is that just me? It makes you wonder what will happen with the collection of today in about 2050. Will there be eternal beauties? Will the Da Vinci Chrono be considered as one? That is no strange question: IWC sometimes has shown to be ahead of its time. For management that all is not very relevant, they like to sell their watches here and now, with a limited time horizon to the future.

It allowed me to identify the Reference number of one of my PW - Ref 5400 in YG with cal 98. IWC's Extract from the Ledger did not mention the Reference. I hope the Reference numbers are he same for watches sold to Japan and to Europe.

As you may know, there had been an independent effort made some years ago to catalog digitally ALL timepieces manufactured by IWC since its founding. Though I think it was not an officially endorsed project it nevertheless keeps alive historic information of a company in existence for a century and a half. Yet, some models shown on the website you linked are not included in the above mentioned files.

For the sake of reference I could only wish that ALL vintage watches produced by IWC be cataloged in one central source by reference number in numerical order and also same looking styles be grouped together separated by mens and ladies etc.

It would be great to see the References together

in addition to Michael's catalog project and the material provided by Christian Niemann (highlighted in an earlier Tuesdays' Tour, link below) and my Reference Numbers in Recent Catalogues (from 1988) we have a start.

Maybe a project for the museum.
