i know watches are in the feminine...

in most languages but these two look liek they belong in the masculine.
    real presence and muscle.

    DER Uhr

I know, in German it is "die Uhr" (feminine), but IWC advertized some years ago with "der Uhr" (masculine). The Big Pilot is the pinnacle of DER Uhr. And that without being overly loud, but just by being what it is: cool, clear, and undeniably present.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing Saint Exupéry Chrono

    Beautiful Norbert >

And isn't it true that insanity is a matter of perspective? What is normal in one culture is insane in another. In this community owning (and wearing) two pilots is completely normal.
Congratulations with your new watch. Really, really beautiful.

    Super watches, great comparison

Congratulations, Norbert. Wearing my transitional tonight. Waiting for 9pm which is a non event for the current Big Pilot. owners. You have the best of both worlds.

    Very nice too! Question...

Do you also have a Lume shot of both the Big Pilots? One of the differences I noticed with both of them in one picture is the place of the triangle at 12 and I believe this is a luminous element so I wonder how it looks in the dark.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

For me, the 5004 is the better loking one

Thank you all for these comparison shots. The 5004 is a bit quieter, which I like. The position of the triangle and the two dots make a bit more sense. The numbers are larger and the index lines are shorter except for the nine, that obviously is missing. To compensate, the two and the four are partially there. As for that missing nine, I tried to envisage how the dial would look if it would be there. Because the numbers are larger it is quite impossible to put it there without making the dial look utterly cluttered at just one region of the dial, making its appearance quite unbalanced. Has anybody tried to put a decent nine on the spot with Photoshop? I think I might be right, thus the 5004 looks the best it can.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing super balanced VC Portuguese

    You can clearly see....

.... that the 5004 was made with the Bauhaus philosophy in mind. "less is more" and "ornament is a crime" were some of their statements. The 5004 dial is just plain black and white, with just a little touch of red. No chrome or silver details and everything that could be missed is leaved out. It's rather minimalistic and that makes the 5004 very attractive, especially next to the 5002. But agian, it was so hard to choose that I myself decided to get both ;-)
