    Dear madam/sir,

Let me shortly introduce myself. My name is Odin, living in the Netherlands.

I have a question regarding an old IWC watch made for the US military. Since WWII a part of my family moved to the US to live and work there. One of our family members lived in the state of New York and was drafted to serve his country in the Vietnam War.

Due to a recent death case I received some items and personal belongings of this relative. When opening a small carton box I saw a ca. 4 cm wide watch. Looks like a metal case, black number plate and the brand of the watch says: "IWC" and underneath 'International Watch Co". In the back there is stamped:

    INTERNATIONAL
    W.W.W.
[Kind of an arrow shaped symbol]
    Y22668
    10585858

Our jeweler opened the case and it says:

    Swiss Seventeen XTk
    17 jewels

    IWC
    INTERNATIONAL
    Watch Co

Above all this watch is a very dear remembrance. That is the reason why I am looking at some historical facts. Did IWC ever produced these kind of watches? Is there anything to say about the serial numbers? Is it possible to let the watch (it still runs okay) serviced at a IWC dealer?

I am absolutely willing to pay for the information if needed. Looking forward to your reply, I remain,

    with best regards,

    Odin

    Very intriguing post here.

If you can post photos of the watch, as well as the movement (inside the case) we could provide more information. I tried to look up what appeared to be the case number you provided 10585858 - but I could not figure it out.

The dial could tell us more too,

Does your watch look anything like this:

Without photos it is like stepping in the dark.

But with this modified number I get this information, but that is indeed a strange number ?!

    1058585

The case was most probably produced resp. delivered around 1941.

    Odin,
I am afraid that your information is at least confusing. Without pictures we cannot identify your watch, as stated.
W.W.W. suggests that it is a military watch made for World War II but for the British army, not the US.
The letter "Y" on the case would belong to Omega, one of 12 brands made as Wrist Watch Waterproof watches (W.W.W.).
IWC produced never a military watch for the US army and no military watch for the Vietnam period.
I guess this information just increases the confusion!
Jammer dat we je niet kunnen helpen.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian.
    p.s. I am Dutch too.

    Dear gentlemen,

First of all; thank you so much for your effort to reply on this post. (@AlwaysIWC: leuk antwoord te krijgen van een Nederlander :)

I tried to make some pictures as requested and hope they can clear up the mystery. But after reading your replies I guess this is a 'false' IWC branded watch. Although it does not diminish the personal value of course.

Call me stupid but how do I upload pictures since it asks for a URL?

    Regards,

    Odin
