I've just had a vintage 18 ct gold IWC cal.89 fully restored by IWC.

The watch was not in great condition and was in need of some tlc! The following was done:

    -Dial intervention
    -Movement restoration (incl.plexi glass)
    -Replacement of crown
-Replacement of hour and minute hand

It took 8 weeks but I am very pleased with the result.  I thought I would share the results with you if you were thinking of making the same restoration choice to a vintage piece. Overall the service was great. Sorry in advance if the pics are not great quality, I will try again if not and use a proper camera i/o phone.

(This is my first IWC by the way and looking to start a collection - any thoughts on some pieces would be great)

    Hi there,

Lovely piece you got there. The caliber 89 is a very nice one. I also really love the wide range of different shapes of lugs that can be seen in throughout the watches with this caliber. For example sharkfin lugs, bombay lugs, teardrop and also more curved lugs (no Cornes de Vache  but same sort of styling) . So if you like these kind of classical watches, it may be something to look into.

I am personally not a really big fan of such drastic restaurations. I prefer to keep my watches as original as possible. This being said, if you buy a vintage car, you also don't drive on its first set of tires. To be there is functional restauration and optical restauration.

I think yours looks pretty nice. Well done. It's a lovely first piece.

I love a good restoration of vintage watches because they look like brand new afterwards.

Did they give more detail on what work they performed on the dial?
An "intervention" makes it sound like it had an alcohol problem...
