What i think isn't conclusive just yet...
If it is the case seen on the ref 666 then it is not a mix of parts...we've
just been conditioned to call that case an ingenieurs case because it's seen
to be done, Schaffhausen would'nt look at it like that. An 18kt waterproof
auto would have been quite a purchase and likely not by an ingenieur or by
someone wanting ingenieur written on the face....it could be seen to be a
demotion...pie pans, email and cloisonne would have the opposite effect.
Your grandfather touching for the watch may have more to do with what country
he was in.
Schaffhausen will know if the movement went into a gold case and who and when
the retailer was. From memory i dont think the gold ref 666 was ref stamped.
