A few weeks back IWC Singapore hosted a small gathering of collectors inviting them to bring along their vintage pieces to the ION IWC Showroom. There the collectors were able to admire and inspect each other's vintage collection of rare pieces as well as enjoy viewing the new models at the showroom itself. Only 15 guests were invited both collectors and their newbie friends brought along to learn the art of watch collecting.

The event would not have happened if not for the hospitality and graciousness of the IWC Singapore team. All credit goes to them to arrange the event and we hope it is a start of a new trend for older collectors to share their very rare and often unseen pieces with both the IWC staff and new collectors alike. Click on the link to view the slidshow. Hope you enjoy a glimpse of what happened that evening.

    Regards

It was the brainchild of my good friend...

Mr Eddie Sng while we had coffee together and it was suggested to first propose it to the IWC team here in Singapore to have the gathering hosted at the boutique and we offered to find and locate the vintage owners and find a mutually convenient time to have it.

We were very keen on this because it differs from other gatherings because it was themed and the focus was on rare - not in production vintages. Having it at the boutique made it a nice environment as well as access to the various books and old catalogues to help newbies with their questions.

It was interesting to see how we collected e.g. Both Eddie and I are very much Portuguese collectors. Then there is the rarified collection of IWC vintage pocket watches (which alas was not brought to the gathering because he brought along his huge collection of early IWC three handed watches (seen in the photos). Newbies were introduced to them and we happily answered questions about our collection.

We are hoping that in the near future, we could have a slightly larger gathering at the boutique of equal distribution of newbies - this time themed for Vintage IWC Aviator and Pocket watches (unfortunately I have neither and not a newbie!).

I hope the concept will catch on and gatherings of vintage collectors are able to share their collection with newbies. It would be great for someone to photograph and capture and share what rare watches there are out there in the hands of serious collectors.

It is after all a passion not just consumption.

    Cheers
    Harry

    History is a wonderful thing.

I understand that IWC is focused on marketing current pieces, however, IWC has a long a rich history and rarely do we get to see those historical pieces. Congrats to all who attended.
