Hi,
I am looking for some guidance about buying a vintage IWC caliber 8531.
I have never bought a vintage watch before, but I live close to a few vintage
watch shops and I especially like the old IWC watches that I have seen in
them.
This one especially caught my eye. However, as I do not know what I should be
looking for when buying a vintage watch, I wanted to get some advice and
thoughts before buying it. It looks like a very nice watch and in very good
condition to my very untrained eye. I am just a bit worried about buying
something or overpaying for something that is not legitimate or in poor
condition or not worth the money.
The shop says it was made in 1962, it has caliber 8531, case size 35mm, serial
number beginning 16..., and it has been fully overhauled and comes with a one
year warranty period.
I would be very grateful for your thoughts on this watch. Is it genuine? Is it
in good condition? I would also be very grateful for your help/tips about what
I should generally be looking out for when buying vintage watches.
I would also be very grateful if you could please give me an idea of a ball
park figure that I should be paying for this watch? I have checked various
online retailers for similar watches and the prices vary quite a lot between
the ones I have seen. This watch is at the higher price end of the ones I've
seen, but it seems however to be in better condition than most of the others.
Thank you very much for your help.
