Greetings ! ... I am new to IWC collecting, really like the ingenieur models
but having a hard time on some of the references especially if the dial was
repainted without Ingenieur symbol, few of them .. inside case back only has
case serial numbers but no reference number at all. Question is .. how do I
know for sure it's a Ingenieur model without looking at the dial ?

    Regards.

    Hi,

Firstly, if the watch does not have the Ingenieur logo on the dial it most
probably is not an Inge. An Inge is worth much more than the other IWC
watches, so I don't think anyone would remove this marking. It can be a nice
watch anyway, but I would not pay the price of an Ingenieur to a seller who
claims it is one, but with the wrong dial.

One way to be sure is to request detailed pictures of the dial, the back, the
movement and the inside of the back and post them here. On this forum there
are several experts who know the details that shows that it is a true Inge. To
avoid helping the forgers we don't describe these details.

If the seller does not want to give you pictures, walk away. Honest and
serious sellers will help, others not. Unfortunately the dishonest sellers are
    only too common.

    Best regards,

    Henrik
