Could you please identify me this watch, ref. number, year and movement? Thank
you!
Could you please identify me this watch, ref. number, year and movement? Thank
you!
Before going through the identification process, which will be conjecture,
since we can't see the movement (which could be Cal 89 or 401) or case
numbers...
Could you please give us some background or context to this watch...
Is it a family heirloom?
Given to you by an Uncle?
Are you thinking of buying it?
Are you trying to sell it?
Nice watch - I love the side profile.
Thank you for your answers! This watch belonged to my grandfather. He is
almost not wearing it, so it is in perfect condition. It was never open. I'll
take it next week to my watchmaker to open it so I can take photo of the
mechanism and the serial number of the watch. I will post pictures and hope
then you can tell me more about this watch.
Great
we look forward to seeing those details and filling in the blanks for you :o)
I visited today my watchmaker who opened the IWC watch. I'm sending you the
picture of the mechanism and the back cover. Watch maker says the clock was
never opened.
The number on the machine is: 1455492
The number on the back cover is: 1418915
Thank you!
Thank You for posting the pictures.
My first impression was correct. It is a Caliber 89 from the year 1958.
Very nice watch and a wonderful family heirloom. Wear it and enjoy it after a
COR (Clean Oil Regulate) service.
Thanks for quick response. Is the crown original, because there are no fish
symbols on it? Although I saw such crowns without anything on them. What would
his market value be? Thank you!
I think the crown is original.
Fish Crown was only put on watches that had cases considered Water Resistant.
Cal 89 dress watches do not always fall into this category.
We do not discuss Watch values here, but you now have sufficient information
to search the web for similar watches, to ascertain a value.
Thank you for your answers. You helped me a lot
Nice watch !
I have almost the same case for my cal 853, without hole lugs... it's funny
because the movement is very different !
enjoy it ! and if it's a family watch, keep it ! this is my tip-off !
regards
I have another question about the watch. Can you please tell me are the hands
and markers on the dial filled with a radium or a tritium? Text on the dial is
only swiss without t swiss t? Thank
you!
Hello,
I don't know exatly when the radium stoped in production. I think it's before
1946 (The caliber 89 was produce between 46 to 76), so I think it's a tritium
dial. And because I think your IWC 89 is not an esrly one : if it's like my
cal 853, it comes frome 60/61.
But I'm not sure (for tritium)
Regards
Philippe
