Hi all,New to this forum as I am ashamed to admit that I am a Rolex nut but I have obtained a rather interesting watch today and would appreciate a bit of help with it.
Its a silver hinged case wristwatch with black enamel dial, the case signed C N and the movement marked SS&co,this rang bells as I seemed to remember this was something to do with IWC.
The interesting thing about the watch is that the back is engraved REV G A Studdert Kennedy from G. V.
Studdert Kennedy was the famous army chaplain from WW1 nicknamed "woodbine willie" because he went into the trenches preaching and giving out fags! and the G. V. is George the fifth who made Kennedy his chaplain after the war.
The inner case is also marked "examined by Dent" who held the Royal warrant for clocks and watches back then.
So in short I believe I have Woodbine Willies Watch, presented to him by the King, but would like to know if this is indeed an IWC.
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry about the poor quality of the photos.
    Jim

Interesting history but not an IWC

The movement is by Stauffer, Son & Co. not by IWC. The CN on the case is the mark of Charles Nicolet who controlled Stauffer from 1874.

For some more details on Stauffer please see the link below.

    Cheers from the cellar

Thanks very much for that, the history is enough for me but it would have been the icing on the cake if it was an IWC!

No Worries We have the cure for the "r" brand here

Just look at some post and click on "Collection" below. Soon you'll want to dump the "r" and enjoy an IWC.
