Vintage recommendation

Hi everyone,

I've decided that need another IWC to keep my Flieger TZC company and while
I'd like a Portugueser, that's a bit beyond my reach for now. So, I've been
looking at some of the older classics like the cal. 89s, or Yacht Clubs with
the cal 8541 and would like to get some opinions / recommendations from the
experts here on different choices. I would like to use it regularly so
durability and maintainability are required. I would prefer stainless and
larger would be nice (36-39mm).

Go for a Cal. 89, which you will easily find in 36 mm diameter. The Cal. 89 is
precise, sturdy and easy to maintain and repair. If you like the look, go for
a handwound Cal. 89 Yacht Club I. A Cal. 89 is every skilled watchmaker able
to service (and to repair of necessary, but I never was in need for a repair
of this calibre). An automatic movement always is prone to more trouble,
though the 85xx are quite sturdy. But a Cal. 85xx is not as sturdy and easy to
maintain as a Cal. 89.

That made the Royal Air Force go for the Cal. 89 in their Mk. 11.
