As some of you know, I am collecting pocketwatches, IWC only.
Far from saying that my collection is a museum collection but I am proud to
have found some nice and rare pieces over time.
Some of the pocketwatches are common, easy to find on the market, sometimes in
better condition than mine, but some I have are gems.
So in these crazy times, as the museum in Schaffhausen is closed, why not open
one here on the forum.
As long as the museum is closed, I will post here daily a pocketwatch from my
collection.
I hope I don't run out of pieces before the virus is beaten. Fingers crossed
for all of us.
I will post them in a random order, with some comments, feel free to join.
Keep safe all.
DAY 13 :
Seeing the answer to my April fools post yesterday by Hebe, I decided to post
here the Ingenieur pocketwatch, ref 5215.
Indeed a special pocketwatch ;
It is waterproof to 3 bars and has a cushion around the movement in the case
as shockprotection, and anti magnetic to 40000A/m.
The movement is the C.9520, with 19 jewels.
It was only available in SS, but there were four dial variations:silver with a
very light grid pattern, black with the grid pattern, white with the grid
pattern (all three of the former were with bars to mark the hours), and lastly
a white dial with roman numerals.
Total production number is very low, I found numbers like 135 ever made,
these numbers by variation were found on the forum :
basic-reference 5215
model Ingenieur SL pocketwatch
sold between February 1991 and July 1996
5215-001 steel rhodium plated with index -- 93
5215-002 steel black with index-- 20
5215-003 steel white with index-- 12
5215-004 steel white with roman index-- 10
I have an old catalogue from 1991 with pricelist , the 5215 costed then in DM
5800.
To compare with the wristwatch Ingenieur ref 3508, the 500.000A/m, the price
of that one was 5300 DM.
There are a few of the pocketwatches in the possesion of collectors on the
forum, I know of someone who has every dial, lucky guy.

see the
little fish next to the ref. a sign of being waterproof.
