The Pheon or Broad Arrow was used in England (and later Britain), apparently
from the early 14th century, and more widely from the 16th century, to mark
objects purchased from the monarch's money, or to indicate government
property. It became particularly associated with the Office or Board of
Ordnance, the principal duty of which was to supply guns, ammunition, stores
and equipment to the King's Navy.

This pocket watch with Borgel case from 1915 may have been used by the Royal
    Navy during the Great War.

What a great example of a Borgel cased IWC Cal. 52.

Movement looks pristine and serviced too.

Fortunately, I don't do military timepieces as I'd feel obliged to make you an
offer you couldn't refuse on this 47th day of the Virtual Museum :-)

Hi Mark. Fortunately for me, you do not do military pieces so this watch
ended up in my collection of IWC military watches, but you did not came a
    loser. ;)

BTW, although the probability is high this PW served in the Royal Navy at the
time of the Great War, on account of the water resistant Borgel case and the
Pheon, this fact has not yet been documented.

Very interesting! I didn't know that the British army used IWC-watches during
the 1st. WW, but I am not an expert in military watches. I think all watches
for the British army had "Borgel" cases? The c.71 and c52T H.S, which I showed
in the forum have "Borgel) cases, a wonderful alternative to "normal" p.ws.
