As some of you know, I am collecting pocketwatches, IWC only.

Far from saying that my collection is a museum collection but I am proud to
have found some nice and rare pieces over time.

Some of the pocketwatches are common, easy to find on the market, sometimes in
better condition than mine, but some I have are gems.

So in these crazy times, as the museum in Schaffhausen is closed, why not open
    one here on the forum.

As long as the museum is closed, I will post here daily a pocketwatch from my
    collection.

I hope I don't run out of pieces before the virus is beaten. Fingers crossed
    for all of us.

I will post them in a random order, with some comments, feel free to join.

    Keep safe all.

    DAY 49, cal 49, 24H dial

Today , day 49 and another cal 49 from my collection.

For a collector, this one falls in the category " If you find one, buy it".

The post is also a nod to a very fine forum member that used to post here a
lot about a 24hour dial watch that IWC should make, our friend Isobars.

Indeed , today I show you my cal 49 , silver case, with a 24 hour dial.

Not the extra notification of 13 - 24 H, but really a watch were the hour hand
takes 24 hours to make a turn around the dial.

There was a very comprehensive post about these watches you can read
    here .

I believe these watches were only produced by IWC during a very short period (
2 years ) and in very small batches.

These don't often come on the market, so " if you find one, buy it ".

I know that from the very few made, some forum members here have one in their
    collection.

Mine was delivered to Pugni in Milan on 14/12/1893

No such beast in my Collection.

Adrian highlights below, that it looks like a Cal. 52 but is not. Then points
out the suttle difference with a Cal. 52.

Tonny, then goes on to say " So both 49 and 52 where used".

Heres a side by side comparison of the two 24 hour movements. Note the hard
half round cutout on Tonny's piece on the bridge at the balance wheel, and
also how on the Cal. 52 on the left, how the balance cock almost touches the
large bridge in the tayloring sweep curve, where on the C.49 there is a
substantial parallel gap that runs along the full length of the balance cock.

Also, a bit of watch trivia. At a certain period during the last century,
there was an apparent need for some to have 24 hours representation on their
    dial.

This aftermarket "upgrade" was developed by an entrepreneur and actually sold
quiet well - given, a number of watches are to be found out there with this 24
    Hour Dial upgrade.

As can be seen in the photo here, it was some sort of a decal that got applied
over the existing dial and showed the 13 - 24 hour markers.

Of course, it's a standard 12 hour timepiece - and hands rotate once every 12
    hours.

    Tonnys watch is from 1893.

One could swear that it is a cal 52, but it is not.

In the Ledger by Toelke and King it is hallmarked as : Lep.c.IWC. 19lig. (
    c.52)

It would probably be advertised as a cal. 52, if it was for sale.

However it has the semi-circular cut out of the 3/4 plate around the balance
and belongs to the forerunners of cal. 52 : it is a cal. 49.

    Adrian,

I've been waiting for Tonny to post his 24h dial to add mine, here it is, cal
    52.

It also claims to be a half chronometer which has no real meaning.

    This c 65 from
1925 is a sneaky way to get a 24 hour dial for Isobar.

interesting Antonio, your 24H dial has a cal 52 . So both 49 and 52 were used.

Again, I learn something, thank you for posting yours.

Mine is a Savonette with the case in 12K gold (rather interesting, I think-
not 14 or 18K), sold to Naples Italy in 1894.

    It is a Calibre 50.

    What about this one?

Sold as well to Mugnier in Naples with the remark in the ledgers it has a 24h
dial. No Elgin III, IWC or 52. A sidewinder cabriolet.
