As some of you know, I am collecting pocketwatches, IWC only.

Far from saying that my collection is a museum collection but I am proud to
have found some nice and rare pieces over time.

Some of the pocketwatches are common, easy to find on the market, sometimes in
better condition than mine, but some I have are gems.

So in these crazy times, as the museum in Schaffhausen is closed, why not open
    one here on the forum.

As long as the museum is closed, I will post here daily a pocketwatch from my
    collection.

I hope I don't run out of pieces before the virus is beaten. Fingers crossed
    for all of us.

I will post them in a random order, with some comments, feel free to join.

    Keep safe all.

    DAY 58, cal 9520

Today a slim, elegant , FrackUhr, pocketwatch.

It has a simple silver case and hands that make me think of the very early
hands on the Jones calibres like I showed yesterday.

The calibre is a cal 9520, the base calibre for later pocketwatches with
    complications.

Also the same movement as in the Ingenieur pocketwatch.

The 9520 is almost identical to the 952, except that the 952 is nickel plated
and has geneva stripes and the 9520 is guilded.

The 952 was an evolution of the famous cal 95 with an added shock resistance.

I have made a picture to show the difference in height between this cal 9520
and the Seeland I showed earlier.

When I first saw Tonny's post today, I knew that it would be hard to come up
with a watch in my collection, that would compliment Tonny's.

Yes, like Hebe below, I have Cal. 9520 based timepiece in the collection, but
it's far from classic looking like that of Tonny's watch, which simply has all
the elagance of an IWC pocket watch from 100 plus years ago, fitted with a
    modern incabloc anti-shock movement.

But then I remembered that somewhere along the line, I had aquired a very
different and rather not so commeon watch - which off the top of my head
    reminded me of Tonny's watch.

It was time to dive deep into my Collection archive and see if I could find
    it.

    The Watch

So, it had to be a modern pocket watch - yet vintage style. My memory did not
    fail me.

See those two little words (with huge weight and significance) at the bottom
of the dial.... well, those are only found on modern IWC pocketwatches - so
this one must do I thought.

And indeed when one compares it side by side with Tonny's watch (here on the
bottom right) you see the similarities stratight away. Note too, the small
print on the bottom of Tonnys dial.

When this watch first appeard for sale, it had another attraction for me too.
Namely, it was offered in a very rare IWC box. A box I knew that would even
make Mr. Russell (the box man) look up!

A box which has both the (then) new IWC block logo as well as the
International Watch Company script logo on it.

It arrived like this - a large wooden box with brass inlay corners.

When I opened it - it contained a bubble wrap envelope containing the watch.

The watch is a Ref. 5230 sold on the 23rd of May, 1980.

The movement a Cal. 952 is the identically engineered movement like Tonny's,
without the gold plating and geneva striping - fitted with the incabloc anti-
shock system it is the modern release of the venerable Cal.95.

And the box....well, that just comes in handy!

Tonny, when you showed the cal. 95, I commented :'it does not become much
    better'........but it does!

The class of its own has it too.
A good choice for this nearly perfect PW.

Thank you Tonny - I seem to have developed a hankering for a FrackUhr! And
Hebe - your photos always blow me away. Almost molecular!

Once again just outstanding watches shown today. Very nicely done Gentlemen!

These Modern Pocket Watches from 1980s era, Do they have Sapphire, Mineral
    Glass or Acrylic Crystals fitted?

    Hi Mark,

In most cases acrylic crystals for the modern p.w.'s.

    Adrian.

    Hi Mark,

you can find all types of glass you mentioned.

But, the Ing. PW is the ONLY one with sapphire glass.
(My Ing. PWs have anti reflex coated glass. It was really worth the effort)
The 55xy refs. have mineral glass.
Others are fitted with acrylic glass.

    Regards
