This PW from 1915 with cal 57 and "John Player Special" case clearly served in
the MoD, probably the Army, during the Great War. I believe
    it is rare.

    Hi Mark.

According to Konrad Kinirim's book, British Military Timepieces, a batch of 12
IWC Cal 57 were delivered to Stauffer & Son in September 1915. Below is a
photo of one of those 12 watches taken from Kinirim's book.

Clearly there were more than 12 cal 57 delivered to the MoD because my watch
has number 88506 and the one in Knirim's book has number 88524, presuming at
least 18, but most likely more. It would be interesting to find out how many.

That is very interesting, because I didn 't know that IWC sold military
watches in WW1, but I am not an expert for military watches. Is there any
earlier watch known with the fantastic "Borgel" cases? A lot of peerless
watches fromby Stauffer & Sons have Borgel cases.

The UK War Office and the Admiralty purchased watches from IWC during the
Great War for the Army and the Navy.

Below is an image of an HS2 with cal 52 from the Royal Navy. It was actioned,
I don't know when and sold for 4,300 DM.
