This was my first time at the event and it was really amazing, seeing all examples of fine watch making in the metal, all in one location, after reading about them in various catalogs and magazines.

Of course my first and longest stop was at IWC.

I've always thought the Ingenier Constant Force was "cool", "neat", techy looking but perhaps in a novelty manner - so what I'm saying is once you've seen it in person and tried it on, all bets are off and now I want it. The weight just feels right and good and despite the platinum case, it just doesn't look as flashy as it could be.

The Midnight Blue dial is really eye catching and despite reasons unknown, you continually gaze at the blue dial since the color, depth, richness, and shine just all work so well together on the dial.

I must say the hands are not the easiest to read since they do not contrast so well against the Midnight Blue color of the dial, but who cares, looking at the color of the dial and searching for the silver hands in that blue ocean is a lovely experience.

Finally, I was able to meet Mr. Kurt Klaus! He was sitting at the bar enjoying a glass of champagne before his next watch making class and was very friendly when I approached him and said "Hi Mr. Klaus".

We talked about some watches and I asked him about the perpetual calendar he invented and he explained "I spent five years developing it...back in those days there were no computers to use..." and you could tell he was proud, happy, and humble of this major achievement of his. He is a very kind gentleman and I was thrilled that he spent his free time to have a quick chat with me.

After the above picture was taken,

I noticed he was wearing a Da Vinci and I asked him, "Mr. Klaus, are you wearing the Da Vinci Kurt Klaus edition" and he was! and, being the super nice guy that he is, posed with his watch when I asked if I could take a picture of him with his invention in the watch dedicated to him with his name on it. I also said I'll post this on the IWC forum and he laughed.

I also bumped into Ariel Adams of ablogtowatch (moderators, apologies if posting blog sites isn't allowed) and we talked about his website and the event and it was just cool meeting him and some of the team behind a website which I visit very frequently.

The event was a great experience and I'll definitely go back next year!

A very nice report, thank you! About the visibility of the hands of the blue Portuguese Perpetual Calendar: only under special circumstances there is a slight problem, in a room with dark ceilings, one is not that often in such a room. I know, I have a Portuguese with a black dial, most of the time the hands and numbers shine beautifully!

    Kind regards,
    Paul
