A few weeks ago I bought a brand new IWC from an authorized dealer in Hong Kong.
After the watch had a few drops of rain on it, water entered into the watch. This was very surprising as the watch is supposed to be 3 ATM water resistant. I took it to an IWC store in Hong Kong and after a week or so they told me that the watch needs full service that will take up to 40 business days. The service is covered by the IWC warranty. I am now waiting for the watch.
I am sharing this because of the following reasons:
1) The fact that a brand new watch has such a flaw means poor quality assurance. According to the IWC website, all watches are tested for water resistance before leaving the factory. If so, how come a brand new IWC from an authorized dealer should should have such a poor water resistance?
2) The fact that I need to wait up to 2 months (40 business days) for repairing a watch that I just bought means poor customer service.
Although I was very excited about this watch when I got it, this is likely the last purchase of an IWC watch that I will ever make. Watches in the price range of $250 typically have better water resistance and customer service. I did not expect these issues with a watch that costs 20 times more.
