A few weeks ago I bought a brand new IWC from an authorized dealer in Hong Kong.

After the watch had a few drops of rain on it, water entered into the watch. This was very surprising as the watch is supposed to be 3 ATM water resistant. I took it to an IWC store in Hong Kong and after a week or so they told me that the watch needs full service that will take up to 40 business days. The service is covered by the IWC warranty. I am now waiting for the watch.

I am sharing this because of the following reasons:

    1) The fact that a brand new watch has such a flaw means poor quality assurance. According to the IWC website, all watches are tested for water resistance before leaving the factory. If so, how come a brand new IWC from an authorized dealer should should have such a poor water resistance?

    2) The fact that I need to wait up to 2 months (40 business days) for repairing a watch that I just bought means poor customer service.

Although I was very excited about this watch when I got it, this is likely the last purchase of an IWC watch that I will ever make. Watches in the price range of $250 typically have better water resistance and customer service. I did not expect these issues with a watch that costs 20 times more.

I'm sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience.
Please tell us what watch this occurred to.
If it has a screw down crown, was the crown screwed fully down?

    Thank you for your reply.

    It is a Portofino IW356506

The crown looked fine, with no visible flaw. I discovered the problem when the watch started having condensation after it got slightly wet from rain.

This watch dies not have a scre down crown according to the manual. Wizard, did you push the crown all the way in before the watch was getting rained on?

I'm sorry to hear about your problem, especially for your first post on this forum. In general, the forum isn't the place to deal with service issues (per the forum rules when you sign up) because they're difficult to assess fully in any individual instance.
Judging customer service on the fact that it takes 40 days to get your watch back is not fair, the watch will be completely overhauled by IWC, so this takes some time. Also water resistance has nothing to do with the price of a watch.
Hope you can understand that I close this discussion. If I can be of any further assistance, please mail me.
