How great it is to do business with an AD that is part of a chain of AD's throughout the country. In the past this helped me to get the limited edition Saint Exupéry Chrono, last year it helped me to get the white dial Portofino Eight Days Handwound. This year I really didn't plan anything, but wanted to see the new Spitfire Chrono on the bracelet and decide what to do based on what I saw. But I never saw the watch at any AD I visited. So I went to the AD in Zermatt I did business with last year, and explained what I wanted. I showed the model in the new catalogue (very beautiful indeed) and she went to the company site. There was one in the country, she could get it for me, no strings attached. Today I saw the watch. Now, about two hours after my visit to see it, it sits beautifully on my wrist, it is mine.

This is such a beautiful watch. As often, pictures, though beautiful, like in the catalogue, don't do it fully justice. The polished and brushed parts of the case make it a very refined watch indeed, certainly when combined with the ardoise dial, making the whole watch less hard, a bit less of a tool watch when compared to the black dialed watches. The bracelet not only looks magnificent, better than on pictures, but it is very supple on the wrist. The micro adjustment feature works fantastic, I already used it once to give it just a bit more space. The size is just right, this watch is just made for me: I think I am a bit enthousiastic right now. I already made some good looking pictures of it, but you will have to wait until I am back.

Winding the watch is a bit special, it feels different from other movements I had so far. The chrono, with its fly-back, is quite a treat, a nice toy. The triple date window looks very nice and balanced, I guess it looks nicer in real life than on pictures. This certainly is true for the Mark XVII that looks fantastic too. For that price it is the best looking watch in the catalogue. Maybe...

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Paul, well done and an excellent choice. It's nice to be tempted and have the ability to act on the temptation. Otherwise, it leads to too much anxiety. LOL.

Congratulations Paul. The Zermatt dealer is very nice indeed. Possibly the most relaxed time I've spent in a watch shop.

As for the new Spitfire, no photo I've seen does it justice. It is really spectacular in person. Enjoy it and wear it in good health.

IWC absolutely nailed it in every way with this stunning piece. I finally had an opportunity last week to spend some time with its big brother the digital date also and the overall execution is spectacular.

Congrats Paul - to me that was the best of the best (pun intended) presented at SIHH! I think it looks stunning with the leather strap as well, something to consider for slightly dressier occasions?

My Spitfire Chrono made its maiden trip today, on a mountain trip: measuring the time the way up and the way down. It passed with flying colours, what else to expect?

There is a visual effect that is very neat. The numbers and markers are all rimmed, these rims are aligned very precisely. That is, without reflection the numbers and markers are narrow, you look at the lume part only. With reflection all the numbers and markers become much thicker at the same time. Playing with this effect is quite funny.

The lume is quite enough too, certainly after pointing the watch to the sun. It gave me all the information I wanted (needed?) last night. These huge hands help quite a bit.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Paul,

Gefeliciteerd, a breath-taking beauty when I saw it at the launch event in the Netherlands.

    Bring it home safely! Groeten,

First post, and congrats to all the fine people here who just got the Spitfire Chronograph!

It is a wonderful watch, and I know - because I got mine yesterday. The 387802 with the leather strap. Great! At first I was a little confused in thinking that the straps where mounted the wrong way and that I accidently got the XL version, but I now understand that's intentional and simply love it.

I've had several Pilot watches before (Mark 15, UTC classic, ect.) but love the fact that the new Spitfire Chrono has it's own IWC manufactured movement! Hurray :-)

    Cheers
    Peter

Well, good to you, Peter, and welcome here. The watch is really amazing, and I like the brown strap version too, it looks a bit more dressy with it. So, enjoy it!

The softly brushed bracelet is a bit more sporty, I wanted to have an alternative when "doing sports". OK, when walking the mountains with sun tan oil and sweat, those not being ideal for a beautiful strap. The super easy micro adjustment feature is such a handy bonus, I discovered this afternoon, sitting in the mountain train back to the village, with thick wrists after a hot hike. Two extra stops, no less. And in the normal position right now again, when ready for dinner.

    Kind regards,
    Paul
