During my last trip to HK and the Flagship store, Rebbecca was kind enough to welcome me into the store and spend some time with me.

Along the way she was showing me some amazing watches (I think I still have some unpublished photos that haven't been posted yet)!

I was surprised to see the inspiration for the Da Vinci dial.

It comes from a drawing by the master Leonardo Da Vinci and the rope pattern in his sketch.

I just wanted to share this small piece of trivia with you.

    Thanks for reading!

    That is really interesting!...

I just thought it was a design element added to give the dial depth and different appearances from various angles. It does that...but it is an added bonus to know it actually is based on something by Da Vinci. Thanks for sharing that little tidbit, Nad!

    Best regards,
    Jim

and did you notice that the markers look like...

ancient pen tips? That also was based on the idea of Renaissance "drawings".

There are lots of very subtle characteristrics underlying the Da Vinci --inverted curves, symbolism, etc. Some of these elements may have been covered in posts by me when the Da Vinci first debuted. At least I recall discussing some of these issues, and for those interested an archives search might be worthwhile.

    Regards,
    Michael

And what about this great discovery by

Mr. Richard Sheridan? The most extensive research about this watch.

Great post. There are many subtle features...

Nad - Most excellent. There are so many subtle design features on the DaVinci - one of the finest examples of design execution in the industry over many years - in my opinion. The proportion of the subdials, the shape of the hands and markers, the profile and negative curves of the case, the crown even has a remarkable shape reminiscent of a DaVinci design/drawing from the Codex - the guilloche as you pointed out - as well as the illusive signings of "DAVINCI" and "PERPETUAL CALENDAR" which appear and disappear depending on your viewing angle...

You have inspired me to replace the Big Ingenieur Chrono on Bracelet that I am currently wearing with the DaVinci Kurt Klaus -

    This is really cool!...

In fact, my decision to purchase a DV was partially influenced by your photographs and postings about this watch. Thanks for the link for those of us that might have missed it the first time.

    Best regards,
