I am new to this forum, so apologise if this info is available elsewhere. I bought my Portofino Automatic in 1997 and have been told by IWC that its reference is IW351311. How can I find out some more info on the movement? I find it quite susceptible to magnetism so may switch it for a new Pilot 36, but would like to understand a bit more about my watch before making that decision. Thanks for any help

I suspect it has the ETA 2892-A2 movement, I have the the stainless steel model with stainless steel bracelet and it keeps good time. At that time IWC carried out a full rework on the ETA movements so maybe a service is all that is needed? All good wishes Barrie

Portofino 3513 has an ETA 2892 based movement. It should not be any more susceptible to magnetic fields than other "normal" mechanical movements.

Is there something in Your watch usage pattern that requires especially high resistance against magnetic fields? In normal usage there should not be any problems. Maybe You could have Your watch checked/serviced.

IWC Pilot's watch 36 has a soft iron inner cage, so it has a higher than average resistance against magnetic fields. It has a Sellita SW-300 movement, whereas the Pilot's watch MK XVIII has an ETA 2892 based movement.

Thanks.... very helpful. I made a few more comments about the magnetization problem under the separate thread "Astonishing accuracy"
