I was thinking that this topic would be a great way to put together some photos of vintage IWCs. My oldest IWC was purchased in 1948 (by my father) and was given to me in 2005. IWC could only identify it as a "1940's IWC" when I sent it to the spa last year for service, so the official date of manufacture will have to remain a mystery. Photos are below:

What a great idea for a thread!!
I would love to say that my oldest IWC is a Cal 89 but but I sold mine years ago. So now all I can say is my oldest IWC is a GST chronograph.

Whistlerbc, great thread and I need to get a photo of my eldest vintage.

But first let me compliment you on that magnificent Turler IWC !!

You did well to send it for a SPA and it looks great on your wrist including that gold bracelet.

Thanks for compliment. I've never seen another one quite like it. My father kept his Turler IWC in mint condition and serviced it properly for 57 years (and I've taken good care of it for 11 years after that); so the visit to the spa wasn't a restoration, just a check-up. What a testament to IWC quality that it still keeps great time after 68 years.

My oldest IWC is, strictly speaking, not mine. It belonged to my mother, who got the watch around 1965 as a Christmas present, in January or even a bit later. It served as her tool watch for all the every day tasks, where she had a gold Omega for evenings out, and other special occasions. The watch is small, 26mm diameter. The bracelet was put on the watch immediately after she got it: so practical, I just don't understand why they don't make these kind of bracelets anymore. About 30 years later (!!) it stopped functioning in a reliable way. She was very upset when she learned that repair would cost about 600 Deutsch Mark, and bought a small sized Swatch right away. I have this IWC now, took a picture of it. It started running again!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Hebe, what a magnificent condition.

Here's my same model piece (but nowhere as nice a condition) as yours - however, fitted with a very unique factory original brown/bronze dial. Dates from 1942.
