My favorite solid back is absolutely this one

Nearly followed by the sweet titanium feel of this

And for the crystal back, the Port. Auto, Cal. 5000, has no contender

Solid: 5002 Crystal: 5444 nt.

Solid CFI. Crystal 5001 (nt)

Solid: Mark XVI, Cyrstal: VC Ingenieur (nt)

At least, from the two I own. From the entire IWC collection, I really like the back of the Jubilee and that Plastiki back looks great too!

I don't think so but I guess a good...

watchmaker could find a way to do it. But I do not think IWC would provide any assistance in this endeavor.

And now that I think about it...

you really would not want a glass back for a watch with a soft iron casing. Very boring.
