This is a story about collecting watches. More than 20 years ago, in the year 2002, I saw an advertisement for a watch in a magazine—it was the IWC Portuguese Chronograph.

Wow, what a beautiful watch, the most stunning design I had ever seen.

A few weeks later, we were on vacation in Lanzarote, and next to the hotel was a jeweler who had IWC watches in his shop window. Naturally, my nose was pressed against the glass...

I went inside, was warmly welcomed, and a few minutes later, I had the watch on my wrist. I admired it, so beautiful, perfectly designed... until I saw the price tag.

I was not used to looking at quality watches and had absolutely no idea about the value of watches. I carefully handed the watch back.

Once home, I started researching and gathering information about IWC. I found the forum, and you could say: the rest is history.

While discovering IWC, I saw that there were many beautiful watches, and I began studying why IWC had such a good reputation, why there were collectors of IWC, and I saw that a whole community of collectors existed. I started buying IWC watches, but not the Portuguese Chronograph with the silver dial… There was always another one that I wanted first.

Until finally, at the end of last year, one crossed my path, and I finally struck.

The circle is thus complete, but I fear I have started another round 😉
