If you can afford it ...BigPilot SS, an iconic watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this a trick question?
Every IWC in the current collection is 40mm or more. So, take your pick!
Without knowing more about your interests, lifestyle, oth watches in your collection - I will vote for this one....
Nice suggestion Ardoise - LoL
3717 - affordable and timeless classic. Epitome of a modern pilots watch in my opinion. If you like it bigger I agree Stainless Steel Big Pilot.
Ardoise' recommendation comes first, then...this one:
In my humble opinion, and just to open the choices a bit more:
For a more informal look - the Aquatimer Galapagos Limited Edition;
For a more classic look - the Portuguese Automatic 7 days.
That said, any other choice is a good choice.
Cheers!
Perhaps some of us have unfairly prejudged you and you might be included to move to the top of the scale and purchase a Portuguese Siderale Scafusia. It is an incredible watch that IWC will allow you to customize to your wants. You can read more about some of it's features in a story dated March 16 under the tab "Experiences" at the top of the web site.
Short of this, the only advice I can give you is each IWC family of watches has something to offer but it is the watch that smiles at you that you should select.
In my case, it was a Spitfire Double Chrono that 10 years later and almost 2 dozen IWCs purchases I still wear once a month.
Good Luck and let us know what you decide.
Regards,
Kevin
how about a 45.5 mm 1004FOOD ?
Hmmmm... Very nice looking sashimi, Shing! Oh, and I like the Ingenieur Double Chrono too... LOL!
Also a good choice would be Ref 3227.
It is a discontinued model but worths a lot more.
I'm going to disagree in part with some of my fellow IWC afficianados here.
You are new to IWC and this Forum. I don't know if that means you are new to watches or not.
If you are new or fairly new to watches, I would recommend Mark XVII or possibly the recently discontinued 3717 pilot chrono. These are excellent every day wear watches that are more reasonably priced than some of the other suggestions and are available on either bracelet or strap. Both are superb choices for flexibility and budget comfort.
If you prefer dressier pieces and can afford a bit higher budget, consider the 5454 Portuguese or perhaps the Portofino 8 day. One of the 5001 Portuguese automatics might also be an appropriate choice.
Moving up the line, almost any of the choices my colleagues have mentioned would be a good one. You just can't go wrong with an IWC!
All ATs are great and over 40mm
So take your pick!
Cheers

Hi welcome to the forum. There are many ways to decide how you should go about with your purchase. Some forummers differentiate between movements, some use functions another way deciding whether or not a watch suits them. There is no magic forumula. One good way might be to look into power reserve. The 7 days power reserve is a nice feature to have and you could look into watches with that manufacture movement. The other way is to look into the use of the watches to decide if you want a dress watch like a Portuguese or a more versatile watch like an ingenieur or an aquatimer.
Whichever you choose, the truth is you must like how it look on your wrist. The watch can be a fantastic watch but if it doesnt sit on your wrist micely, you won't buy it. Good luck for our purchase and let us know when you have decided.
HI Iwould like if you can help i would like sell my watch witch i was get by prsent from my ex wife and I do not know if it is expensive and where and how much will be cost . it is IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN MARK XVI - SWISS MADE FLIEGERUHR 3491230 IF I WOULD LIKE SELL HOW MUCH I SHOULD BE ASK>???
THANK YOU
I vote for my newest, the new Spitfire Chrono. 43 mm but it looks bigger. Both sporty and dressy, and on the bracelet very versatile when considering actions and climate. So beautiful that you may not need another watch for quite some time. But if you want another one later, the sky is the limit. Good luck!
Kind regards,
Paul
Hi 1004food,
IMHO, for a start I choose the watch with the 7days power reserve as I change my watch every other day. This will take away the hassle of winding and adjustment of the time & date. But, by doing that, you will loose the fun and personal intimate moment of winding the watch, admiring it.......I personally enjoy that moment. I call it the talking time.
Next, I would try on the watch and take a picture of it....and if you still think and dream about it for weeks, maybe months or year for some.....that is the chosen one. Follow your heart.......as it will leads you to where it belong.
I hope you will find what you looking for.
My favorite
