    This weeks theme is split second watches. So lets see your favourite split second IWC, whether it be a Pilot Doppel, a Portuguese, a GST etc.

    Every Friday I'll nominate a theme - contemporary, vintage, calibre, reference, complication, case, markers, lugs and even memorabilia and please tell us why it is special to you.

    You don't even have to own the watch, just desire it or be something special to you. The series is in the Gallery section so please post images if possible (check the archive or search online).

    Cheers from the cellar

    Top pic is my current favorite, which would at the very least still par with the 2nd one should I have a chance to try it.

    Until I bought the TG, I was never a pilot watch fan: too much male action hero ego, whether in a fighter jet or race car goes through my mind when I sight them, and through some sort of nifty design morphed into something closer to a classic watch design aka masquerade. The TG was the exception: it just says it as it is. The symbolism it evokes complete with a protruding third push button and “cockpit” dials and date and day visuals including the oft-ridiculed Top Gun logo on the back - but all that to me is this great timepiece being exactly what it stands for, without being distasteful or obtuse.

    I can contribute my 3711 to the thread. It is a wonderful IWC rich with tradition. It wears nicely on the wrist even though it is a heavy weight. The bracelet is very, very comfortable.

    A technical description of the 3711, the predecessor to the 3713. The major difference is the domed crystal and the T Swiss T hands and markers.

    I have two and I am thrilled with them. One because of the blue color, the other because of the dial layout, the circumstances under which it was purchased (in Austria, new, even though produced in 2008.)
    For me the best feature is the triple date which really evinces the cockpit gauges seen in planes.

    My only split second.....
    It was my first real 'complication', and I love its looks as well as the engineering that goes into it:

    My favorite: The Da Vinci Perpetual Rattrapante, the watch with the highest number of hands manufactured by IWC so far

    Just like Shing, my favorite split-second is my Top Gun:

    Before I broke down and bought it, I couldn't justify to myself to buy such an expensive watch. I gave myself every single good reason I could come up with not to get it, but every time I saw that little red aeroplane... and saw how it would split up and merge back again... I just completely forgot all the lame excuses for not getting it.

    Here is a picture of the rattrapante mechanism stolen from the IWC official website:

    Just for the future your code should have been the following, with brackets replacing the parentheses;
