    Hello everyone,

Since a few months I'm the proud owner of a IW371446, the Portugieser chrono with blue hands. In my perfectly biased opinion one of the most gorgeous watches there is.

I've got a question about winding the movement, however. My apologies is this has been discussed before.

I rotate the wrist time of my IWC with several other automatic watches. To keep the movement running I use either a Beco Boxy watchwinder or wind it daily manually.

Lately i noticed that the movement had stopped while the watch was in the watchwinder.  After I few days of winding the watch manually I found that the movement had stopped again.

My other watches, an Omege and a Rolex have never stopped running while in their watchwinders. I've no experience with manually winding watches, so I'm not sure how many turns in takes to keep the watch running without wearing it. So far I've used 20-30 turns, but apparently this seems not enough. On the other hand, I don't want to overwind the watch, although it has a safety mechanism.

Long introduction to a few concrete questions:
How many turns should i use if I want to keep the watch running without wearing it?
Is it possible that this watch needs more movenement/turns in the watchwinder, compared to a submariner, for example?
Do I have reason to worry about a malfunction in the movement that causes the watch to stop?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jerôme

    Hi Jerome,

first of all congratiolations on the new IWC! Its a great watch indeed and I love it ever since I bought it. Everyday I´m stunned by the different shadings of blue the hands have ... from light blue to dark blue/black.

As you mentioned there is a saftey mechanism, so i think its impossible to overwind it. I only wind my watches manually as I think a watch winder is not needed (except you have a perpetual calander or similar). Usually I do 50-60 turns which should keep it running at least 40 hours.

20-30 turns will only get you a decent power reserve to start wearing the watch - but it wont give you the full power reserve. To build it up you should be wearing the watch over the day if you only do 20-30 turns.

If you turn the crown 50-60 times and it still stops after a while, you should see an IWC doctor. But I guess you should be fine.

    Have fun with the watch!

    Best regards
    Adrian
