I was just curious which watches come in the large wooden box? Is it reserved for the limited editions and more expensive watches? I am a little confused because I have seen 5001s in the wooden box but my 5001-09 came with the standard large black box. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Boxes have changed

    Hi there,

When I got my 5001-07, it came with the wooden box. My AD had another white one in stock at the same moment and that one came with the black box. For me, the movement was the most important and since both had the 44 jewels 3 Hz movement, I chose the one with the wooden box.

The box sure is nice but after a while, it found itself in the same closet as the other boxes so in the end, it didn't matter that much.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

PS: When I got my 5001, there was no 42 jewels 3 Hz version yet.

I don't think the 5001 uses the wooden

box any longer. My 5001 did, but my 5022 Perpetual Calendar bought one year later came in the black leather box like all the other new IWC I have obtained recently.

Enjoy your Port. It is a great watch,

    Bill
