Worldtimer or Dual Time?

Hi All,

Haven't been active on the forum for a while as I was pretty happy with my wedding gift (3777).

Of late, I have this itch that needs to be scratched - the itch of obtaining a new automatic watch... As I have been travelling quite a bit this year, I have settled on the type of watch to get - a worldtimer or dual time watch.

After some research, I've narrowed the watches (of both types) that I would like to obtain for my stable, but am undecided on which one to get. The choices are:

Worldtimer type watches:

The IWC Pilot's Watch Worldtimer (3262)
Frederique Constant Manufacture Worldtimer
Alpina Pilot Manufacture Worldtimer (basically the same as the FC)
Ball Trainmaster Worldtimer

Dual Time watches

IWC Ingenieur Dual Time (3244)
Rolex Explorer II

THey are all good watches, but I'm not sure which one I should get...help please?

Could you see yourself in need of keeping up with more than two time zones? I think the 3244 would be my choice; it really fits the "do-anything traveler" bill.

Hi Ed, as you already own a pilot style watch, the Ingenieur would be a very good choice, in steel ( or Titanium 326403 )it is a robust, stylish watch and the best looking one of the lot, by far !!
But maybe i am bias....

A dual time is very handy when travelling, you see "here" and "home" in the blink of an eye. The Ingenieur Dual Time is a very good looking watch to boot.

But I would go for the worldtimer, as it is more versatile, and more fun. Also when not travelling, most of the time I guess, you can still see what time it is in most parts of the world. Like, at what time is the tennis match in Melbourne likely to start? Is it likely that William in Chicago will read my mail when I send it now? Can I call Irene in Buenos Aires without waking her up? When travelling through time zones the watch can be adjusted for the "here" time in a very easy way.

Here you see my Worldtimer, wear it quite often, right now. It looks much nicer on the wrist than on pictures. It wears great!

Lately there is an alternative, the Yacht Club Worldtimer, see a recent post clicking this link.
Yacht Club Worldtimer It looks a bit more dressy, and to me is a very desirable watch.

My preference would be the Ingenieur Dual Time.

It is easy to tell time with it (the Pilot World Timer is a bit too complicated and confusing to look at). Furthermore, how can you pass up a nice IWC stainless steel bracelet with length adjustable mechanism?

If you want to get the Pilot World Timer, I would suggest you to check out the brand new Yacht Club World Timer as well.

I agree that the Ingenieur Dual Time is a lot easier on the eyes. The World Timer is just too "busy" for my eyes and my tastes. The sadly-discontinued Pilot UTC was very easy to read, too.

I'd opt for the Dual Time solution. The Pilot Worldtimer is beautiful but the triple date is not for me. The Yacht Club Worldtimer could be an alternative.
