A Very Scary "Jubilee"

Do you like this "Platinum Jubilee" I found posted for sale? Fortunately,

the seller is completely open about what he is selling. He says the watch is comprised of a genuine IWC dial and hands purchased from Schaffhausen (how did he do that???), a movement taken from a pocket watch, and a new stainless steel case.

The seller is very clear about what the watch is and is not and has gone to great length to explain it very clearly so that nobody is deceived. The price ought to be a clear signal to anyone who knows anything about IWC.

BUT..... what happens when this watch is sold? Will the next owner be as honest when he sells it? Why do I get the feeling that this one is bound to show up on this Forum again some day posted by a newbie who says "look what I found!"

As it says: "You will not see this kind of watch anywhere in the world"...hopefully....at least it is adjusted to (3)Three positions.

Good post Dick. Worthwhile news and info here. The case is not an IWC case either. The bezel appears "bloated" and rounded to me - is that observation consistent?

Thanks for bringing this up. I also saw this the other day and was surprised to see this. Rich is absolutely right about the case-- totally different for the reasons he mentioned (bezel and case back at a minimum). The crown looks too big to me as well. The only parts this watch shares with a Jubilee are the dial and the hands and maybe the plexi crystal and sapphire display back.

I am curious where he found the parts.

This is precisely why I wouldn't buy anything vintage without seeking help from the experts around here. Case in point is the pocket watch I just bought with the help of MarkL. I wouldn't have gone and done that on my own.

Indeed scary. This piece will swoon any potential buyer because of that great face on it, with the perfect appendages!

I never considered the Jubilee as a vintage watch--now I feel old! :) This watch is almost 25 years old--where has the time gone?

I still think the Jubilee is a "safe" watch to purchase--the markings on the movement make it hard watch to fake not to mention the engraved edtition number on the side of the case.

Here are a couple of examples. I think the differences between the wstch Dick posted vs. these two are pretty significant. I would like to think that before anyone spends that money on a watch, they are going to do their research.
